We have a white homing pigeon that is hanging around our house. Its half tame, I can get within a foot of it. It has a band on one leg. Is there a neat way to catch these things without hurting them. After I catch it, then what do I do??

I know that as tame as it is, a cat will have it in no time.

It is a beautiful bird.

Terry, the bird could have been off couse due to bad weather, many of these birds are raced. If you can net it, keep it caged till you can find the owner. (Maybe?) The band should have some info on it as to where to call. Maybe you can look it up on the computer. Most of these birds are males with the hen on the nest at home, this encourges them to return home. These birds mate for life. Good luck.

Better give that thing a letter to take to another address or it will be passing out your address to all of its buddies. Had two show up here about march and thought they were cute so left them alone and now there are about 12 to 15 regulars. Not to worry cat sleeps on one rafter and they sleep on the next.

Dip net, like you use for landing a fish, it is basicaly a round hoop with net attached and has a long handle, least it works good fo chickens.
