My fiest dog, got sprayed by a skunk last night. How long till this smell wears off? Can I do anything to help it go away.

My dog smells a lot better today; must not have gotten a real bid dose. Thanks to you all for your input and knowledge.

Same thing happened to my dog last week. He's a large, long haired Border Collie. A good friend of mine reccomended a product called "Skunk Off". It's available at pet supply stores. It is 100% money back guaranteed, and works great! My dog now has that "new car" smell.

Skunk Off, I'll have to get some of that.
Dont have a dog but when I get ready to sell my old car I will spray it in there.
I am sure it will help me get a better price.!
New car smell is great. :-)

Get yourself a coupla bottles of mouthwash, bathe him in that . take the sink right off.won't help his breath , but the rest of him will be alright !

Tomato juice won't work very well.

Here's a solution invented by a chemist, and it does work. We've only had to use it twice, but it took nearly all the smell away on all three of our dogs. You can still smell a very faint odor for a while if the dog gets wet, but this worked well enough the dogs were able to sleep in the house that same night.

I keep fresh, unopened bottles of hydrogen peroxide and a large container of baking soda in the pantry. Beats having to run to the store when your dogs get skunked.

Be sure to use fresh, unopened hydrogen peroxide. When a bottle of peroxide (H2O2) is opened, the extra oxygen molecule immediatly starts leaving the solution and you are left with H2O.

depending on the size of the dog get 2 to 4 quarts of tomato juice and give him a bath. Also get a good clothes pin for your nose while you are bathing him.Now for the georgia redneck solution.Get a can of white spray paint and paint a stripe down the dog's back and tell your friends that you have a pet skunk.

Sure am glad you cleared that up as the last time I was in Georgia I wondered why so many dogs had them white stripes on their back. Just goes to prove that if you keep quite long enough you will get the answer to your question.
