1st I just bought 20 acres Half is Alfalfa the rest in weeds. I want to get rid of the weeds and put in a brome/timothy/"grass" pasture. So far the info has been keep weeds cut and/or spray, then in aug disc and plant. If I keep them mowed will discing get rid of the weeds so the brome has a fair shot or spray and hope that no drift goes over to the alf. Any and All info would be appreciated. THANKS

Also 2nd question I live in Neb. when is the latest you would want to cut alfalfa. Or how does one leave it to go through winter??

If you plant Brome & Timothy like you talking it should do fine. Timothy is intrusive and will strangle out any weeds or existing alfalfa in a couple of years.
As to how late you can cut alfalfa just get it cut and baled before your first frost. Once alfalfa gets frosted it becomes toxic. If you plan on using it for a cover for your new seeding, leave it a little long until the new hay gets a good start.
