My son is getting married next May and I am very excited. My question is, is it appropriate to wear the same dress as I did in my daughters wedding 3 years ago. Is there some sort of ettiquette involved with this? He is the one that asked me why I just didn't wear the same thing. I didn't even think of it. Money is not a problem so that would not be a reason to not purchase a new one.

A little over 30 years ago I bought a nice pair of Black Dress pants (only Dress Pants I own) They still look new since I don't dress up very often. It helps being the same size too. Spend the money on something the kids could use instead. But then I wore Jeans and rode on horse back for our Mariage 20 years ago. Still use the jean jacket, cowboy hat and boots but the pants are long wore out! Mark H.

Talk with the bride. Does she have a preference about color? Would her feelings be hurt if you didn't buy a "special" dress for their wedding but you did for your daughter? Brides are so nervous anyways.

According to traditional etiquette, it is perfectly acceptable to wear the same dress to more than one wedding...

But you have to change your underwear and keep your pinky extended at all times...

Well if I had a chance to buy a new dress and money was not an option i have to say I would be going shopping...LOL. The one thing that comes to mind is you probably will be having the wedding pictures on display in you home side by side. Do you want to see yourself in the same dress in both wedding pictures?

Being mother of the groom, I know lots about that cause all I had were boys, now men. Yes, I've worn the same dress, and there were pictures taken, but how often are these pictures from two different weddings going to be displayed together? Besides, who cares? If you look good, wear it. Now the third and fourth weddings, the styles had changed so I bought something new. I always figure it's not my wedding anyway. OH, Lenore, I love hats on women---unfortunately I just don't look good in them. Wish more women wore them though.

Do you have any more children with a first marriage coming up? Sounds like the start of a tradition to me. The bride has her wedding dress, mom has hers.

If my son suggested I wear the same dress;
I would.
He evidently liked the dress on you and thinks you looked beautiful in it.
I would do it just for him.
My son likes the way I look in certain outfits,
so if I go somewhere with him I try to dress to please him.
He loves for me to wear hats!
So when appropriate I wear hats when I am with him.
He is a hog hunter outdoor guy and I never thought he paid any attention to what I wore.
I was working outside one day
and had on a really cute straw hat with a fluffy bow hanging down the back.
He invited me to go eat lunch with him.
I said wait I will take this hat off and bush my hair first.
He said leave it on, it looks good.
The next time he came by and invited me to go have lunch,
he asked me to wear my hat!
So if my boy suggested I wear that outfit;
I would.

The first thing that came to mind was pictures. If money is not a real problem, get a new dress.
