Thankfully it looks like he is going to make it but seeing my faithful Black Lab after being poisoned was the most gruesome and horrifying sight I have ever witnessed.PLEASE be careful if using one of these baits. We have yet to find out were he ingested the stuff.

I must have missed the beginning of this...

What kind of 'bait' are we talking?...Is this ome commercial stuff?

For 'slug' bait all you do is pour flat beer in a pie plate and inset it the ground so that the rim is at ground level...

For flies you steep the caps of the Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric Mushroom) in water for a day or so and then leave the plate on a shelf in the house...The Amanita Muscaria is a 'death cap' but in the small amount found in a fly bait, it should do no more than make a dog vomit (or a human really)...

Hope the dog (and you ) are feeling better!

Where do you get the Amanta Muscaria?

In the woods ;-)    Posted 08-02-2003 at 06:21:04       [Reply]  [No Email]
Seriousley though, they are found throughout North America...

Below is a link of what to look for...BUT...You do need to be careful...Wash your hands after handling and DO keep the 'tea' out of the reach of children and pets...Like I said...Small amounts will probably not kill you, but it can make you sick, and has even been purported to give you halucinations...

The link pertains specificlly to the Bay Area of California, but the Fly Agaric is one of the most widely dispersed fungi in North America...I know of one Fairy Ring that is nearly 40 feet across and is a complete circle...Has to be hundreds of years old...

I once went out with Amanita Muscaria if i recall - lived in a trailer in Pierre SD - boy there's one gal that'll curdle yer milk right into gouda! Didn't try ingesting her but that first look in the morning was enough to make my cowboy boots start sneaking away on their own, let me tell ya! The screen door rattled, she whispered "Husband", i asked "Husband?", heard the approaching footsteps and left the silly boots to find their own way home! Nothing sobers ya up like a nice morning streak! Yep, she traced her roots back to the Haluci Nation. Musta been her :) Ah to be 18 again .....
