We all do stupid things

Since we had thunderstorms off and on all day yesterday, and my wife and I couldn't get any farm work done, we decided to go to a local auction to buy bargins we didn't need. We called some friends who also couldn't get farm work done, and they came with us in search of bargins and entertainment.

Well, we got lots of small things for the house and farm, enough to fill up a full size cargo van, and still tie a few things on the roofrack. We all spent all day at the auction. Coming home we were all tired, and I was too lazy to get a step ladder to untie the items that I had tied up to the roof rack of my van. I stood on a metal lawn chair. Well as I was untying some saw horses we had bought, the chair settled into the mud and flipped over, flipping me over. Since my hand was on it, the sawhorse flew up in the air too. I went flying and luckily landed in some soft mud, just in time to see a sawhorse sky rocket in the air, and come down on the windshield of my van. The windshield cracked, and the sawhorse bounced off, landed on our rock wall and broke apart.

I wasn't hurt, but those bargin sawhorses could have just cost me a lot!! Luckily I have full glass coverage on our van and pickup with no deductible, so I already got an appointment at our local autoglass place to have it replaced. All because I was tired and in a hurry, and too lazy too walk ten extra feet and get a step ladder.

when I either break something or get hurt it is because I was tired and in a hurry and taking a shortcut.

glad nothing serious can be replaced, but some injuries are forever!

No kidding! Glad you're okay. You're right about getting tired causing accidents. Next time you want some cheap entertainment best just sit on the front porch in your rocking chair...atleast it's pretty safe :):)but, then again life isn't about just sitting around.

Thanks, Annie.

Going to auctions are fun, if you don't get caught up and buy too much, or pay too much. We got a bunch of tools, my wife got three boxes of all kinds of kitchen gadgets for $5/box, that she's gonna share with her friends. We even got a giant box of horse tack. Our friends got a handmade wood drafting table for $10, and lots of tools cheap.

Lots of fun if you don't kill yourself unpacking the truck!!

I have bought a few items at auctions this summer. I find the all metal, no plastic saws & drills to be exceptional bargains. $2 & up to $12 for large circular & variable speed jig saws. Most air tools including staplers, air ratchets, & chishels are $3 to $10 each.

I bought a tent camper for $700 in great shape with new canvas. Also a never used 500 watt generator for $75 to help run the camper.

Small hammars at $1 to $5 for new sledge hammers. Aluminum pipe wrenches $7 to $15 for a 18". How about a new 45lb all brass fan-light that weighs 45lbs for $1. Box of 75 clothes patterns for $1. Crowbars for $1-$2. 30 new SQ D circuit breakers for $10- great for the new pole barn electrical. 1500lb pressure washer for $55.

Anyways, lot of bargains here at auctions.

Yep, you can find bargins.

Our riding lawn mower died, and we needed a new one. We got Honda 13 horsepower riding mower for $400. It was only 7 years old, and it had a new engine, less than a year old. It runs great.

We buy a lot of our farm equipment at auctions. We even got one of our tractors at one.

Rich, Rich, Rich.....    Posted 08-11-2003 at 11:21:31       [Reply]  [No Email] level headed friend. If you'd fallen on a chicken and injured it, it would have hurt you more than a broken leg. Glad you're okay, good deal on the glass, and next time....well I don't need to go there do I? (grin) Cindi

Thanks, Cindi!!

I actually posted this to take the heat off of you that you get for being so forthcoming in telling us about some of your mishaps.

We ALL do them, whether we admit them or not!!!

And you're right!! I would easily take a broken leg instead of hurting any of my critters!!!

Well thanks for that, I love hearing that I am not the only one.
