Who knows...    Posted 08-17-2003 at 21:35:54       [Reply]  [No Email]
The two thousand member church was filled to overflowing capacity one Sunday morning. The preacher was ready to start the sermon when two men, dressed in long black coats and black hats entered thru the rear of the church.

One of the two men walked to the middle of the church while the other stayed at the back of the church. They both then reached under their coats and withdrew automatic weapons.

The one in the middle announced, "Everyone willing to take a bullet for Jesus stay in your seats!"

Naturally, the pews emptied, followed by the choir. The deacons ran out the door, followed by the choir director and the assistant pastor.

After a few moments, there were about twenty people left sitting in the church. The preacher was holding steady in the pulpit.

The men put their weapons away and said, gently, to the preacher, "All right, pastor, the hypocrites are gone now. You may begin the service."

Hypocrite

One who puts on a mask and feigns himself to be what he is not; a dissembler in religion. Our Lord severely rebuked the scribes and Pharisees for their hypocrisy #Mt 6:2,5,16 "The hypocrite’s hope shall perish" #Job 8:13

A hypocrite is one who acts like something he is not, so I am sorry but no hypocrite will ever get to heaven seeing that he is just acting like something he is not, namely a Christian, which by the way means "one who is like Christ" or "One who follows the doctrine of Christ"

I fully realise that none of us are perfect and I can understand why some of you might have taken offense at this post, but on the other hand the theology of this story is not at all unbiblical. Ya see, missing perfection is no excuse for hypochrisy, after all Jesus did say that if a man was not willing to lose his life then he was not fit for the kingdom of heaven. Something I would like you all to think about is that at this present day in other parts of the world people are being killed for no other reason than their faith in Jesus Christ to the tune of about 3 every minute or about 19 every hour and many of them in circumstances very similar to this hypothetical story which was told. Many of you (albeit probably unknowingly) have by your comments to this post have insulted the lives of these martyrs and the Lord that they (very unhypochriticaly) served. Perhaps some of you need to read a book called "Foxes book of Christian martyrs" And the bible wouldn't hurt you either, you might start with "Luke 9:62 But Jesus said to him, "No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
Guys I am not in any way trying to be disrespectful towards any of you, but the story does hold true.

I am missing something? What does beliving in God have to do with standing in front of a guy with a gun and not moving to save your life? Is that not the same thing as getting out of the way of a car hitting you or are you suposed to beleive God will lift up the car to go over you. Don't you think God may have gave you the sence to move?? Sorry but I thought that was common sence, maybe there is not much of that going around anymore now days. There is some saying "Give me the faith to know what I can change and the brains to know better" something like that. Mark H.

Mark, I want to thank you for your comment and let me try to explain, ya see if you were to stand in front of a truck and not move that would be foolish and if you didn't dodge the bullet so to speek in time of war or other circumstances such as say a robery, then again, that would be foolish. The issue in this instance is that of integrity and loyalty. A person who truly knows that he belongs to the Lord no longer has the right to choose his own safety or life over the overriding responsibility to testify to the Lord that he serves. That is the idea that Jesus was teaching by saying: "Mattew 10:32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
33 "But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.
34 "Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.
35 "For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’;
36 "and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’37 "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.38 "And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.39 "He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.
Jesus also commanded His followers to be His "witnesses" over all the earth. The greek word that Jesus used for "witnesses" was "martoos" which is the same root word for "martyr" which in a nutshell means someone who is willing to die before he would forsake his loyalty in word or action. Mark, I am not loyal to a truck on the highway and letting myself get run over would be stupid, but if refusing to deny my Lord costs me my life and perhaps that witness brings you to the knowledge of the truth, then my life is yours my friend.

I know that this was a joke???, but, Jesus said he didn't come to call the rightous, but sinners to repentence. So unrighteous man must come to hear the word. If only the righteous went to church the church would be empty because none of us are righteous. Thank the Lord for His mercy!

In some areas, several folks in the pews would have fired first.

Amen...

No law against that here in Vermont...

The Church would have been empty, we ARE all hypocrites at one time or other. BTW I don't intentionally tempt God with useless stories, He might just send someone to our church with a gun.

Les    Posted 08-18-2003 at 14:01:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
Yes, yes, yes! I couldn't have said it better, Ron. If somebody is looking for a good reason to stay away from church, anything will do for an excuse, won't it?

Jerry    Posted 08-18-2003 at 07:58:28       [Reply]  [No Email]
God would not want hypocrits chased away. They are the ones who need to hear the sermon the most. A church is like a hospital for sinners. Us sinners keep going there to get our dose of medicine.

Corey    Posted 08-18-2003 at 21:43:56       [Reply]  [No Email]
Acts 5:12 ¶ And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch.
13 Yet none of the rest dared join them, but the people esteemed them highly.

Iknow that the modern church doesn't teach this but God does not want hypocrits in the church, in fact the church by definition is a gathering of believers who are grown spiritualy by fellowship with one another and those people go out and make believers and then these new believers come to the church to be fed and grown. Jesus spent most of His ministry trying to flush hypocrits out of the assembly.

God helps those who helps themselves. I would have left & god would have respected me the next day using good judgement. (Funny joke though).

who's to say the bozos wouldn't a been charged by those twenty? - True story- While a gunman stormed a circuit court while in session, Jimmy Hoffa tackled the whacko while he was still trying to shoot the judge. After the would be assasin was shackled and hauled off the judge asked Hoffa what kind of man he was, to run into the path of a shooter and then kick the dog liver out of him. Hoffas's simple reply was " Your honor, on the street you learn early, run at a gun, run from a knife." Mike D.

stuff like this? Probably a hypocrite. Please tell me where in the bible you found this story. Since everybody is or can be a hypocrite, I wouldn't put much stock in such a tale.

Willy-N    Posted 08-17-2003 at 23:04:10       [Reply]  [No Email]
I would have to answer that one with getting out of the place! I don't think god was speaking with those 2 people and by staying put would prove nothing of my faith. I ducked a lot of bullets in Vietnam so I could come home, and I don't belive I was suposed to test my faith by being stupid and taking a bullet from a non beliver shooting at me. Just my point of view. Mark H.

I would have been out of there in record time. Two guys in black coats. Who are they to decide if or when it's my time to go?
