I am wondering what the concensous is regarding
the automatic Ak Rifles some in America Have.

For deer hunting, etc why does anyone need that
kind of gun.. I dont know much about guns but
are the Machine guns allowed...

I wonder how many on this forum do have guns
both men and women. What do you do with them.
or do they gather dust?

"I am wondering what the concensous is regarding

Stop paying attention to 'The Media' and get some first hand education from those that know...

AK-47 and SKS firearms are not 'Automatic rifles'...They are 'Semi-Automatic'...Same as any other semi ever built since their invention...You have to pull the trigger once for every round fired...

Military 'Full-Auto' and 'Curio' 'machine guns' are highly regulated and have been since the 1930's...There has not been a crime committed with a 'legally owned machine gun' since that time...If anyone has a report of one, I would be very interested...

In short...There is no difference from the modern semi-auto hunting rifle (or pistol, or shotgun) and the 'Ugly' (to some) look of the imported old world military surplus guns (or those invented in the late 1800's for that matter)...

To ban a whole 'breed' of firarms because of the way they look is just a reactionary and ignorant feel-good piece of legislation...

Salmoneye, Who Gave Up His FFL Cuz It Just Didn't Pay Anymore

PS...When was the last time that anyone was killed in the US with a bayonet or a thumbhole stock...

Suzy Q    Posted 08-19-2003 at 19:03:32       [Reply]  [No Email]
btw, what was it that the DC Snipers who came
cross country used.. Were those automatic or what.?

Just curious...

I would worry more about a good regular Deer Hunting Rifle than a SKS. Much more power better shooting. Lot of hype on the news about Machine Guns they are not Machine Guns but are Semi-Automatic firearms. Lots of firearms are Semi-Auto including Pistols. Just because a Firearm looks mean dose not mean it works better for killing. The Media loves to get the public going about AK-47s and 99.9% of the people have never owned one except the clone looking off brands. A real AK-47 Fully Automatic Russian/Chinese was a good weapon but not sold to the public unless you had a special licence to have it. I do not hunt any more but I like to plink and target practice. I have several Mini-14 .223 cal, Ruger 10-22 .22cal and a Civilian M1A-M14 7.62 and all 3 are Semi automatic firearms, but the Media loves to call them Machine Guns! They are a lot of fun to shoot. Just owning a firearm does not make you strange, it is also a right in the USA and I plan to keep them. Called the "Right to Bear Arms" in the Constitution. If I wanted to go Deer Hunting I might use the M1A-M14 but a better choise would be a Bolt action Rifle. Much more accuate for shooting and longer range with certian types. Mark H.

Thanks for sharing... I do believe that we
should have the right to bear arms.

I am just concerned that some who have been in
prison or convicted of Dometic Violence or
other felonles for what ever reason have the
access to guns.

Law abiding citizens should not be hindered
from owning or using guns.

Willy-N    Posted 08-19-2003 at 17:37:36       [Reply]  [No Email]
Your right the Felons will allways have access to guns. I just don't what them to be the only ones. If they could prove to me that no criminal they let out of jail dose not have a gun I would probley sell a few of mine. I want the right and proper ones to take care of my family with. Mark H.

Suzy Q    Posted 08-19-2003 at 17:41:54       [Reply]  [No Email]
I understand what your saying... In this
day and age, one should be safe.

Bob/Ont    Posted 08-19-2003 at 17:34:35       [Reply]  [Send Email]
Criminals don't seem to pay much attention to what is or isn't legal though.

Bob, your so right. the bad guys surely
mess it up for others.

I wonder what the solution to stopping
their access to guns?

Bob/Ont    Posted 08-19-2003 at 18:35:45       [Reply]  [Send Email]
They don't like to do that much anymore.

A lot of Marks post on the other sites and I was Nick Named Willy at a tractor get together because I used to have long hair in a Pony Tail and the N came from me selling so many N-Tractor parts on eBay. So that is how I got the name Willy-N. Now when people I know see my Nick name they know it id me and I sign off with my real name my Mom and Dad gave me. Mark H.

I feel that a law abiding citizen should be able to own an automatic if he wants one and can afford it.

Suzy Q    Posted 08-19-2003 at 17:25:12       [Reply]  [No Email]
Hi Sid, nice to meet you. I too agree that
law abiding citizens are allowed by our own
Constitution of own and bear arms.

I have an SKS chinese 5.62X39 simi-auto, I removed the bayonet mount, lengthened the stock, added a small scope. I refinished the stock in Cherry and it actually shoots fairly good. I have killed deer with it. I bought it because it was cheap and ammo was even cheaper then. thousand rounds for 90 bucks. I don't use it anymore because I have a Weatherby 270 I like better.

Ron,Ar    Posted 08-19-2003 at 17:54:16       [Reply]  [No Email]
Oops- how 'bout 7.62X39, don't know what I was thinking.

ret    Posted 08-19-2003 at 18:43:26       [Reply]  [No Email]
one of my guns is a Chek M52 7.62x 45 It is a 10 shot semi wicked little devil, has the folding bayonet on it. Trouble is, the ammo is hard to find and expensive

Ron,Ar    Posted 08-19-2003 at 19:19:35       [Reply]  [No Email]
have ya checked a place called "cheaper than dirt"? they might have the ammo you list.

Suzy Q    Posted 08-19-2003 at 17:28:36       [Reply]  [No Email]
Hi Ron... How is your part of Arizona today.

Were you in the service? That rifle sounds
interesting...and must be quite a beauty...

Are you in the hill country of Arizon North?

Ron,Ar    Posted 08-19-2003 at 18:05:40       [Reply]  [No Email]
I don't know much about Arizona, Az is for Arizona. I live in central Arkansas, and NO I don't know Bill & Hillary. Nice of you to ask

Suzy Q    Posted 08-19-2003 at 19:12:06       [Reply]  [No Email]

Ron,Ar    Posted 08-19-2003 at 19:22:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
Thats ok, I've been called a lot worse. Deer hunt mostly.

Suzy Q    Posted 08-19-2003 at 19:28:45       [Reply]  [No Email]
My neice went Antelope Hunting and bagged on
in Wyoming.. Her Hubby made her clean it and
hang it... then later she had to drag it to
the truck... haha It was more than thrice her
weight...before gutting.

She is about 98 pounds but 5 foot 8 inches yet
it was quite a feat for her... and she didnt
faint when gutting it. haha. She really did
suprise him as she is a California City Girl.

Here are a few of my Collection. The Media could do quite a write up on these if they wanted to. Make me out to be some Wacko from Ruby Ridge! Mark H.

Suzy Q    Posted 08-19-2003 at 19:14:50       [Reply]  [No Email]
I get the impression that many of you
collect Guns, Rifles not necessarily
as Militia Men but for the sport of it.

Am I right?

btw, how did ya come to sign as Willy?

Willy-N    Posted 08-19-2003 at 20:50:35       [Reply]  [No Email]
Answerd part of that above in a post. Yes most like to collect and there are a few who are off the wall in the way they deal with them. Lot of people should not be out of jail too! Guns are mostly a Man thing but Women like them too. Mark H.

toolman    Posted 08-19-2003 at 19:04:31       [Reply]  [No Email]
i didn,t think there was any wackos on ruby ridge, oh you mean the govt.people , yup then there was for sure , but randy and his family weren,t.

Willy-N    Posted 08-19-2003 at 20:47:56       [Reply]  [No Email]
The Real Wackos were the Govermet. Brought in tanks and lots of guns. They could not wait till he came to town to question him. Had to shoot his wife and dog to get him mad? The Media loves to get the misinformed all worried. Mark H.

Maggie/TX    Posted 08-19-2003 at 21:50:57       [Reply]  [No Email]
You've got that right, Mark. I read the book about Ruby Ridge and am satisfied it was the government guys who were the real problem. Sure, Randy and his wife were "a bit out there" but they were living peacefully and not bothering anybody.

I thought pretty much the same thing about Waco. Somebody comes crawling through my window, I'm not going to stop and ask if they are ATF, FBI or a burgler. I'm going to start shooting.

Willy-N    Posted 08-19-2003 at 22:36:24       [Reply]  [No Email]
Waco was the same way. They could have picked him up in town too! No way did all those children or others need to die that way. It was a very sad ending to a dumb thing our Goverment did. So many other ways it could have ended or never even got started. They wanted a fight to show others what they could do. Real sad how some follow a messed you person professing to be some kind of Gods mesinger. Like George Town same thing a bunch of dumb sheep with out a mind of there own?? Don't crawl in my window at night too! Mark H.
