What generates the worst smell in your neck of the woods? With us, it's the dairy, despite the fact that we raise pigs.

The worst stink in our neck of the woods (rural Wisconsin) is when the turkey farms spread turkey manure. That's only once or twice a year, though. Thank goodness.

I wish we DID have more dairies around to add their aroma to the landscape. It used to be that you could drive up and down the roads around here and there'd be small family dairy farms everywhere. Now they're all gone. Economic conditions have forced the small family farmers out of business.

Hhhhmmmm. I thought long and hard on this, and I guess we're real lucky!! We really don't have any bad smells in our area. We all do pretty well managing the manure that our livestock produce, and we don't have any real industry outside of agriculture around here.

So I have to borrow something from Loudin Wainrite, and say the worst smell in our area is

The dead skunk in the middle of the road!!

I lived in Charleston, SC for a while. The drive ta work was right past a mill, and the stench would gag ya.

Local folks told me "It smells like a paycheck to us." After a while, yer nose gets useta most anything.
