Cindy and Jack. Cindy is my best friend from school.
She is now in her late 40's, and her husband, Jack is around 60. She and her husband were in a terrible motorcycle wreck - they were hit by a truck. She has lost a leg, so far, and is on a ventilator, needing more surgery but not in good enough condition yet. She was opening her eyes once in a while, but basically had a fixed stare. Today, they said she has not even opened them at all. Her husband, Jack, is needing surgery, and has some internal injuries and a very badly injured leg also. He was laboring to breathe, and fighting so bad that they had to strap his arms down. They have now put him on a ventilator also. Neither one are very responsive, if at all. Jack has had 2 surgeries so far, and is needing more, and they are afraid they might have to amputate one of his legs also. They are both in Baylor Trauma Unit ICU, Dallas. Please remember them and their families in prayer. They have 2 children ages 11 and 12. They are in very, very bad condition and need prayer desperately. Please, feel free to pass this on to anyone else you know who will pray.

I am very sorry to here that. I hope they will be OK. I saw a nice motor cycle yesterday in front of this place and then several hours I saw the same one on the road wrecked, I thought it was the same one but this happen in Idaho yesterday. Mark H.

Phyllis, they have the prayers. I've had a couple of friends killed on cycles and another best friend who lost her leg on one. The main thing will be how strong their will to recover is, and I bet it will be strong since they have children. My friend who lost her leg now has a prosthesis and was dancing at the Jimmy Buffett concert last April.

We are thinking of them Phillis, feel so fortunate to have never seen a bad accident on the road for a long time.

Prayers on the way.

I can't tell you all how much I appreciate this, and the replies. Cindi, no, they were not wearing helmets. A pickup had a blowout, came into their lane and hit them. Her foot was severed in the accident, and her leg up to her knee was almost all gone. He has more internal injuries than Cindy does, and his leg is really bad also.
I just called Baylor and talked to one of the family. Now, they are not wanting to let the family in to see Cindy, and I'm really afraid it means that something is going on. They will let them see Jack. Both of them are still out. I so much appreciate the prayers.

I wish for the best but I have yet to see anyone survive when not using a helmet. This is horrible. I think everybody should wear them even if they are not required by law. We lost a friend three years ago to an accident and he was only doing twenty five miles an hour, someone ran a red light and hit him. No helmet.Keep us posted please.

I will join you in Prayer for your dear friends,
also for the children and the parents of each
of your friends... It must be very difficult for
all concerned.

Phyllis, I will be thinking of them and hoping for the best. Were the wearing helmets, do you know?

~Lenore    Posted 08-23-2003 at 18:21:22       [Reply]  [No Email]
I will, too.
I know motorcycles are exciting and fun,
The odds in any accident are not with the motorcycle.
A collision with a truck....terrible.
I have had two people I knew personally who were killed on them.
I do pray they will both survive and do well.
