This was an ingredient in the Country Taco Soup
recipe on the Country Cooking link. Is it a
certain type of tomato or a name brand?

WallSal, it's a brand but they do have generic brands that just say "diced tomatoes with green chiles." I have cans of each, as it is a really good basic ingredient for lots of recipes. The original type Ro-Tel contains: tomatoes with juice, water, chopped green chili peppers, salt, citric acid, calcium chloride and spice. I like to add a can to vegetable soup or to a pot of pinto beans for a little extra flavor.
