I need to know if brown bats fly south for the winter or hibernate.
Some have taken residence in a small hole of the house roof overhang and I would like to fix the hole, but I don't want to block them in or have to tear it all apart to find out if they are there yet.
I am assuming they are brown bats because this is Michigan and I have been told that is all we have here.

As far as I know, northern climate bats are hibernators and tend to form hibernation colonies in a protected area during the winter.

Yes, all bats in northern climates hibernate.
