but turned out to be nothing really bad, kinda.

Jenny came in from the back porch about six a.m. saying the pasture dogs were going crazy, which was an understatement because when I went out there, not only were the dogs going crazy, all the sows were too. Buncha squealing going on. Then I heard the unmistakable sound of a big boar, running around all worked up. Too dark to see, so I got A...Jake out of bed and B....the spotlight.

I could hear this sound, rythmic, the boar talking to the ladies, kinda like a chain saw on idle. God I hate that sound when it's dark out. It's never a good thing. Turns out Hercules broke out, and was chasing Clementine around the little pasture.

Lotsa bad words. Now I have to put that basta*d back up by myself. Again. Once it gets light. If I don't run away first. Why the heck doesn't this stuff happen on Staurday or Sunday when Fred could go do it?

it's one of murphy's laws that anything that can go wrong or happen at the worst possible time usually does. that murphy musta been one smart fella. he seem to had it all figgered out.

I've been told that it wasn't really Murphy who invented that law but another feller by the same name.

A Man to do anything this Saturday or Sunday here...

First weekend of Duck/Goose season...

You can call me on my cell phone in the blind if you must...But I won't have it turned on...Might scare the ducks...

Been seeing lots of geese lately. Some so high you could barely see them. We're not in a major flyway but we still see quite a lot.

The Lake funnels em here...They start coming down from altitude when the get to the Breakwater in B-town and by the time they glide the 10 miles (to here) they are ready to eat and rest...There are easily 2000 birds within 3 miles of me now...

Unfortunately...Only Ducks & Snowies opens this Saturday...For the Canadas we have to wait till the 25th...But they will stick around till then...There is sooooo much feed now, and they won't leave till the weather turns really bad...

We live on the first ridge from the lake. I could take my limit and then some of Canadas every evening from my driveway. They come just over the trees as they make their approach to the cornfields of Sheldon and Fairfield. Some of my best memories growing up are of the time spent in the blind. I can still hear the "whistlers" through the fog as the final minutes till shooting time tick off the clock.

Nowadays this time of year is spent playing catch up for all the time I "wasted" out on the lake this summer.

Greg
who wonders why no one makes a fragrance combining wet burlap, cedar boughs, Hoppes #9 and gunpowder.

Thanks alot...

Now my head is spinning...

I just spent 10 minutes with my nose in the Hoppes bottle...

;-)

Salmoneye, The Dizzy

PS.....I am not even up the first ridge...I live on Ferry Road in Charlotte...Lake elevation appx 100 foot above sea level...My house...Appx 120 FASL...LOL

PPS.....I can tell you are Woodchuck...I swear we are the only ones in the country that ever use cedar on the blinds...Now if you tell me you spot fish in the river from trees while on the Willoughby...I'll be really afraid...

:-)

LOL

Nope, I never fished from the trees on the Willoughby.

Did most of my tree fishing in the swamps and flooded river mouths of Champlain with a rifle.
I haven't met anyone that's "not from around here" yet that doesn't think I'm pulling their leg when I tell them about Pickerel shooting.

Ah the good old days. Back when someone would still stop and pick up a couple of hitchhikers carrying firearms...

I did that a couple years back...

I swore I knew the Father of one of the kids...The Girl that is...Nope...These two just got turned around and didn't know what road they were on when they came out...Both must have been 15-16 maybe...Took em all the way back round the mountain from above Coles Pond in Walden to Stannard...Seems they was cousins...One went one way, and the other went across the road when I let em off...The boy had an M1-Carbine, and the girl had a lever action trent-trent (that would be a .30-30 for you non-frenchmans)...

Salmoneye, Who Is Aparently Way Dumber Than He Looks...Or Remembers Being The One With The Thumb In The Air 5 Miles From Nowhere

PS.....Gotta love shooting pickerel...When was the last time you took a newbie and handed em a .357 with hollow points and made em stand in the back of the boat right close to the water :-)

I just love that...Almost as much as 'Pitch-Tuning' a kids first $5 duck call...

I am such an old grump...

Mama never told me how much fun payback was when you get over 40...

I just wish I had more neices and nephews...

I have not hunted waterfowl in years (closer to a decade)...Last time I bought my stamps was 97 and I never went...It was years before that, that I actually put any effort in...I have been practicing with my calls for weeks now...

Dad and I have made 4 dozen silhouettes in the last 3 days...3 dozen Snows and a dozen Cans...Going to set up in a field down the road that has been holding 52 Snows, a couple dozen Cans and a few Mallards...

Even if we don't shoot it will just be good to be out with Dad...

Cell will be OFF, but due to Dads' health, it will be carried...

Fred doesn't play duck duck, goose, just deer, deer, hog. I just got back in, turns out it wasn't Clementine, but Hannah, she just weaned her babies a few weeks back and has gone back into heat so she sought him out. I locked them both up together which is what they wanted anyway.

Now I just have to go out and fix the water line to that pen as the one that's on it isn't working. But for the time being at least they can't damage the well tank and pump which they could have gotten to easily before and would have just because they could.

Had to use the hotshot on Herc for the first time in a year. He forgot how to respond to 'move your azz'. Now he remembers again. (smile)
