the whole thing about ghettopoly has been all over the news, the naacp says its degrading to black people, i dont exactly see how that is, it has a picture of a black guy on the front yes, but so what, if they put a picture of a white guy on it i dont think any white guys would complain? i can see how some could say its degrading to urban lifstyle in general, but not just blacks. and even so its no worst than any of those rap music videos they got all over tv nowdays. i see the company is planning to release redneckopoly, i cant wait!!! i remember playing monopoly at a friends house one night and saying how great redneck monopoly would be, little tractors and trucks and combines for game pieces, and ya could buy and sell livestock, farms, junkyards, corn, all sortsa stuff, and they could put a picture of a redneck on it and im sure not one redneck would be on tv complaining about it.

Let's just wait and see if the NAACP gets upset when the redneck version comes out. I'll bet they don't.

There ain't no rap music videos all over my TV. Of course my set is over 10 years old so maybe it's way out of date.

hm markct, I'm sure I'm missing something here..

The redneckopoly you would love to play sounds just great, I agree.

But this Ghettopoly game..? cryies in the eyes of my God.

A black guy holding an Uzi in one hand and a weed cigarette in his lips is the art work on the game box.

The object of the game is to buy stolen properties, pimp hoes, build crack houses and projects, pay protection fees, and get car jacked and the likes...

The more I think about it [my family had this same discussion last weekend] the more confused I get.

I've been comming to this forum for more than a year now, and there is a constant in the issue of our familie's quality of life.

So...I ask; what would we do if our children and grandkids came home with this game from the christmas party from school?

Just wondering about what you would do.

I know I would get really, really loud...

No agree 100% that this gettopoly is not a great thing. I'm white and I feel that this is really targeting the black community and I can see how it would be offensive to most. We're all equal but we live in different areas and that has to do with our ways of life.
On the other hand redneckopoly is cute and we southerners have a distinct sense of humor. My husband and I and some friends were playing monopoly the other night and thought too, how great it would be if we had a redneck momopoly that targeted the simply life of those who don't have it all and really don't care if they do.
It's all in they eyes of the beholder. How you take it is how you were brought up. If you were brought in a racist community then I can see how you would or could be offended, and if you weren't brought up in a racist community I can see how you think that people were over reacting. we still hjave to be sensitive too the ohthers views and especially the children.

i didnt mean to say that the game was appropriot or proper, just that i dont see how it is neccesarily targeted at blacks, ie why the naacp is the ones that are against it, if it were a childrens group, or just upset parents then i would agree entirely, but to say its degrading to blacks i think is rediculous. i dont approve of the game at all, but then again it is just a game, its not for real. and besides, is it anyworst than alot of video games? but when i have children i wouldnt want them playing it till they were 16 or 18 or so, when they knew the difference between right and wrong, same with alot of video games.pot, crack, pimps and hoes are part of city life i suppose just as tractors, corn, trucks, and farm animals are to most of us, i mean heck what else would ya make a monopoly game based in the city about, traffic jams, accidents, cops, noise, what else is there to the city than that. i think the game wouldnt have gotten as much attention if it wernt for the black guy on the box, i mean we have video games where they go on shooting sprees and all sortsa stuff, its just cause they made this into a race issue

I started a reply to this several times, but each time I sounded kinda racist. So I will leave it at this.

Sometimes the truth hurts.
Denial only perpetuates the problem.

I'm tired or race cry babies. My WASP ancestors were enslaved and persecuted too. by the English and the Romans to name a few. They choose to rise above it. Race relations have come a loooooooong way in the last 50 years. I don't know why some decide to ignore it. I guess its the "gimme" mentality
