What to do with the wood stove

Thanks for all of your thoughts--
leaving the wood stove upstairs is not an option according to my wife and she is the boss when it comes to the house. So down in the basement it sets. Should not be too much of a problem down there as it is a walk-out basement.
Again, thanks for all of your replies

scott back when we were kids ,all we had for heat was coal, used to have the kitchen stove for heat and cooking ,it heated all of the down stairs and they used to cut a square hole in the ceiling and and right over that hole upstairs they would cut the same size hole in the floor so they lined up , i remember they used to be about a foot square and then they would put a heavy steel grate on the floor upstairs and a light vent in the ceiling and the heat would rise up through these grates and heat the whole upstairs.
