Try this online spelling test to test your skills.

proud to admit i'm an excellent speller - it's cut&paste that has me stumped - what test?

screaminghollow    Posted 10-17-2003 at 13:40:39       [Reply]  [No Email]
Spelling was not standardized until the mid 1800's. Until then folks spelled most things phonetically and no one cared about some little differences. You were well educated just to be able to read and write. I am still puzzled by the insistence on the "ie" stuff and "c" should have been outlawed years ago in favor or S and K. affect and effect? give me a break. I understand that we even changed the pronunciation of the vowel "e" about the same time. Ever talk to some of the southern folks. They bumped hade on the bade and got a tirrible ache. Up north, they say they bumped their hed on the bed. Yet we spell it as head and bed. If we spelled bed like we do head, we'd string em on necklaces(bead) Why the inconsistencies?
(If you haven't noticed, I generally question everything.)
