Why do we actually do the daylight savings changes anyways? What started it and why do we keep it up? Aren't there a couple of states who don't participate in changing the time back/forward. For the record....I hate the practice. I'd rather have the extra hour of daylight this time of year in the evening when I can use it...not at 5-6 in the a.m.

You ought to see what it's like in western Michigan, where the Eastern time zone already extends into what ought to be the Central zone - then they do this extra hour "bonus" to us! What a bunch of hooey!

daylight slaving time was benjamin franklin's idea . had to do with getting people to work earlier in the summer months to take advantage of extra daylight before electric lights .oil lights cost too much .now its the polititians and yuppies that want the extra time for their goof balling

What would you do if you lived up North Toolman, It'd get dark at 5 and stay dark for 6 months.
Later Bob

I'm with you Annie, I'd like it better if we went to one time and stayed with it. I want my daylight in the evening, so I vote for daylight savings time year-round.
Mornings are for sleeping in, evenings are for getting your work done.

RD, who is definitely NOT a morning person.

I believe it started as some energy savings measure. I could be wrong.
There are some counties, not whole states that don't use it. I think some areas in Indiana for one.
Got bad news for you. We are now in REAL time. We would have to be perpetually in daylight savings to get that later hour, after 5PM.

I heard this am that it was started in 1918 and stoped in 1919 but was started up again in 1986. This is the first year i've delt with it as I lived in Az all my life and they don't reconize day light saving time.
