Overload of Possums?

Took a couple loads of kids on a hayride couple weeks back. Couldn't help but notice the many possum carcasses on the rural roads - several per mile! Have been on the main roads too lately, and same thing - all over the place! Then we noticed that the cat food was disapearing at a great rate on the back steps. So, we set a live trap, baited with cat food, and a little ham or turkey skin & fat from leftovers. Got two in two nights. Anyone else seeing a large number of possums? (I'm in central Michigan.)

Couple a years ago my grandson, about 5 at the time asked my wife what a possum looked like. City kid ya know. She said it was those flat things that live out on the highway. Now and then she comes up with a zinger. :}

If you leave cat food out all the time you will have a lot more fat possums. They love it! After walking out and catching them eating my cat's food at night startling the dickens out of me....

I give Top Cat just what he will eat in one sitting and not leave any out there. Besides possums those darn pharoah ants swarm on any left out side.

We have a lot of them around here too. I sometimes get one in the trap when I'm trying to catch groundhogs.
I'm convinced that they aren't the brightest animals in the woods and that's why they get hit on the road so much.

get in touch with the governor and she'll do a studdy to see why they are on the problem spending 135000.00 to see why deer cross the road. and the state is supposed to be broke.
