What is the right and most effecient way to stick a hog? I have been told that you need to cut the main arteries on top of the heart. So where do you do you make the entry with the knife? I know that it is from the front, but how do you tell where the right spot is? I've got some to butcher and want to know what the right way to do this is. Thanks

My dad would knock them in the head, jerk them up vertical with a single tree chained to a front end loader on a tractor, and then cut their throats. The front end loader was then used to slosh them up and down in a barrel of boiling water after they had bled out. They were then scraped to get the hair off, then gutted. After that they were taken down from the front end loader and laid out on a table for butchering.

The smell of fresh tenderloin and red eye gravy cooking for breakfast still lingers in the recesses of my memory.

Have killed a bunch of em here on tha place headed for pig roasts.
I used a 38Spc with light load and 168gr WC. go down between and just behind the ears aiming towards their snout.

There is a sunkin place between the shoulders and under the throat much the same a s the hollow at base of Your neck.Go straight in thru there and move the knife point back and forth so as to cut across.
We used to knock em, hoist em scald em,scrape em all that.
Now after Ya stick it Ya hoist it ,skin it,gut it and Your done!!!! All Ya lose is tha hide iff'en Ya like fried football covers which ain't bad but I'd asoon buy em when I get tha urge.

The way I do it is to load them on a trailer, and haul them to the local butcher shop. They only charge $8.00 for the slaughter. Hell,If someone told me they were going to pay me $8.00 to shoot, stick, gut, and skin a hog I'd tell them to get lost.

The correct way is to first shoot the animal either with a rifle (22 will do) or a percussion stun gun and then immediately hang it by the hind legs. With a long, narrow pointed, sharp knife insert it at a point just above the jaw a few inches and drive it to the bone (neck) and slash downwards. If you get the correct arteries the blood will gush out and the job is finished.
You are now ready for scalding and scraping the hide clean of hair.
Please remove the animal from the others to a clean slaughter area. We have enough problems with animal rights groups without being blatant.

I had an old farmer show me the slickest way years ago. He fed the hogs in a trough, and while they were eating he would walk up and slit their throats. It never seemed to upset the others, and there was not much thrashing around like with panicked critters.
