It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves under the flag, and
whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.

I agree. This reminded me of a poem I read while in boot camp and awaiting orders. The poem went something like this.

If I were short and fat and bald
I would dine with scarlet majors at the base
Reading the roll of honor
Poor young chap I'd say
I used to know his father well
And when the war was over
And the youth stone dead
I would tottle home and die
Safely in bed,

Very Right Clipper, It's the Population that protects the politicians not the other way around as they like us to think.
