Trailer hitch class specs??

Can anybody give me an idea about the various trailer hitch classes...which is heavier, lighter, etc? What are the max weights each can tow?

I'm still looking at pickups to replace my old one, and some come with class II hitch, another with a class III, and another with a class IV. All the pickups are roughly the same size, horses etc. I need to get smart on trailer hitches, I guess.

thanks!

Hi Tom,
Get more hitch than you need. Mike D.

Personally I will not go with less than a class three recever hitch myself. I consider class I and class II, almost a joke

The class IV is the heavy duty one, I can't tell you the specs off the top of my head, but you do not want anything less.

And why do they continue to use roman numerals to denote class numbers? How many Romans come here to by hitches? How many americans buy hitches in rome? Wassup with that?
Sven, check with a dealer in your area, and get him to recommend a hitch for your truck and your needs.

Already got a hitch on my truck, it came with it, and I added a goosneck hitch. Tom A was the one with the question. LOL, don't feel to bad Ron, I have days like that too.
