our 9-day season is just done here and they're still playing with a 4-day one across the highway. record harvest again, the paper said like 6500 registered last weekend. best so far was a 235-lb 12-pointer. but on my way back from town this morning i still watched 3 healthy deer bouncing thru our woods so they didn't get them all :)

The war started earlier for us. Unofficial war that is. I don't think it has been a police action but am not sure. Must have been some sort of insurrection or guerilla action. The neighbors tell me that only duck hunting has been 'allowed'. Darn ducks have been crawling all through the woods by the sound of the gun fire.

I shoot...    Posted 11-17-2003 at 07:49:55       [Reply]  [No Email]
Ducks in the woods...

There is a small ridge behind my Moms' where the ducks skim the trees from one river to the another...I can get 2-3 ducks a day if I sit there long enough...Sure doesn't look like a place to hunt ducks...

I am pretty sure that this is the only place on earth where this is possible though...

It's not necessarily the only wierd place. I hunt geese from the top of a hill in the middle of the high desert on occasion. They fly between rivers, and fly low over the hill when the clouds are low.

Here is MO they started Saturday morning, but most folks started last week and have held onto their deer till today. (yes, I saw them), but they are allowed 7 deer this year (farm owners, that is). I just hope they don't shoot my brown goats (yes, I keep them close to the house). But this area is so populated now with five acre homes that I don't know how you could shoot safely, but they do. I worry till the season is past.

we came west on 17 and the wind was bad but whenwe came to 390 north all he-- broke loose. i believe that was elmira. by the time we got to dansville it was realy bad we stopped at a deli and asked for directions to pike. the man said you realy don't want to go there but we had already came over 200 miles and we wern't turning back untill we got the tractor. i nad a two wheel drive dakota with trailer. tough going

Man that sounds like it was rough. Hope the tractor was worth it. We have 4X4's wouldn't live up here with out them. It's pretty hilly around here, but alot of open spaces, makes for a hairy situation with the wind blownin. Glad to hear all worked out for you.
