Killing roots with copper sulfate

I have an above ground pool and I am having problems with roots. Next year I have to remove the liner and replace it because of roots popping up and put 2 holes in it. I was thinking of removing the clay pull up what roots there are and putting copper sulfate under the entire pool and around the outside to prevent this from happening again. My question is is this reccomended and if so what procedures I must take to ensure the best results. Thank you RA
