How y'all coming with those gifts?

I posted a question a while back on suggestions.
Got some terrific responses, and some great ideas.

Trying to carve some bowls from wild cherry burls. Mixed results, one thing for sure: they won't hold milk & cereal.

Let me know how it's going for you & your projects. I'd like to read some success stories.

Doing my best to stay out of a mall...

Mrs. Ludwig came up with the best idea ever this year, we're ordering oranges for everybody. We got 'em last year, they arrive in mid-january just when you're about starving for some warmth and good weather. The plus for our friends and family is good oranges and not stuff they don't need. The plus for us is that we don't have to go to the mall and we save $$ on the impulse junk you end up buying when you're shopping.

The wife and I make carribean rum, we start with a regular dark rum in Ball jars add bannana, vanilla, and some spices and put a bow on it and a Christmas card. Dont know if the FDA would approve! Oh yeah we make it 6 mo in advance.

I'm with ya Mike, hate the Mall with a passion! This year had abundance of jalapen'os,banana peppers, and tomatoes, so making baskets with jars of pickled peppers, tomato jam, also ordered Florida fruit from the FFA, with some homemade candy and cookies. There is just something so much better, to make gifts instead of buying, more personal. Happy holiday season to all!!

I used to give watermelon jelly! [But I always
forgot to get the watermelon before they went out
of season.] Folks always loved to get a jelly
they never heard of or tried before!

Never heard of watermelon jelly. Sounds interesting. Made some candles today. Trying to find stuff the kids can make for family. I'm with all of you, I'd rather give from the heart instead of the pocket book.

Oh, good point Deadcarp, last year made Salsa, and didn't wear gloves, Holy sh*te!!!!!!! almost went to the hospital! Poison control suggested a sink full of cold milk, and half bag of ice, stood for about 2 hours bathing my hands in it.gotta wear gloves!
