Cannot take the statins. Too much muscle pain.
Zetia, diet and exercise lowered my overall number to 248, but the triglyceride number continues to climb, now 422. Now the doctor
wants me to try Lopid two times a day.
Read the side effects. If it doesn't mess up
my stomach, it could cause malignancies. Geez,
what a choice, which would kill ya first?
Did ya know? A cousin of mine told me that
meat naturally contains the calcium that builds
up in the arteries. So, she in her late 70's started to eat meat once a day. She's now 80.

Have you talked to your doctor about Niacin? Niacin is just a vitamin (B-1, I think) but taken in large quantities, it really helps with the cholesterol.

I have a really scarey family history of heart disease, both parents and 3 out of 4 of my grandparents, so my Doc was really panicked about my numbers. Put me on 2000mg of Niacin a day, and my numbers are perfect now.

Only side effect is "hot flashes" which are controllable by taking the Niacin right after a meal, and adding a baby aspirin. The baby aspirin is also good for your heart.

Been on it for about 10 years now, numbers are still perfect, I eat what I want within reason. Doc does a full blood panel every year to watch for side effects, none at all so far.

And yes, it DOES help to get your weight down and keep it down.

I have been on Lipitor for a few years now, When I cut way back on sugar is when my Trigs went way down. It is amazing. Used to drink a gallon of sweet tea every day! Now I make my tea with Splenda, tastes just the same.

Lipitor works for me somewhat. Haven't had any side effects for 3 years. But having said that, the numbers didn't come down until I lost over 30 pounds. That had the most profound effect on my cholesterol numbers.

I don't take any pills but vitimans and a aspirn once in a while for a headach. Reading all the side effects is enought to make you not want to take them. I eat meat at least once a day got to do something with all the cows we have in the freezers. I am saving the pills for when I get older so they will still work and I have a while since I am only 52 now. Mark H.
