I have 9 goats , 2 of them have sore eyes, they look like cateraks and have gunk coming out of them sometimes, one goat is worse than the other, I took them away from the others ,does anyone know what this could be?the other goat has a 6 wk old kid . Could it be the sun reflection on the snow? I don't know what it can be, any advice would be great. Alison

Sounds just like the eye infections that one of my dogs gets every other month. The vet gives me an optical antibiotic ointment to put in her eyes and it clears it right up. Then it comes back in a couple of months, but the ointment is cheap, and she just gives me more. Have a vet look at the goats.

I have heard of this but cannot remember what it is. Pink eye or nutrition? Not sure.

Check out

Lots of good info there. They also have a 911 service that you can post on to get answers.

If I remember what that is I will post it.

I had this happen to a goat right after I had purchased her, a few years back. Her eyes were so bad she could hardly see, and I figured we'd have to put her down. Then out of the blue, she recovered. I never DID know what she had, and when I described it to a veteranarian, he didn't know either.
