in his book, "Innocents Abroad." (I have an orange tabby...good cat)--Dave 50 8n

"Spain is the only nation the Moors fear. The reason is that Spain sends her heaviest ships of war and her loudest guns to astonish these Muslims…. Spain chastised the Moors five or six years ago, about a disputed piece of property opposite Gibralter....
But she never gave it up until the Spanish soldiers had eaten up all the cats. They would not compromise as long as the cats held out. Spaniards are very fond of cats. On the contrary, the Moors reverence cats as something sacred.
France had a minister here once who embittered the nation against him in the most innocent way. He killed a couple of battalions of cats and made a parlor carpet out of their hides. He made his carpet in circles--first a circle of old gray tomcats, with their tails all pointing toward the center; then a circle of yellow cats; next a circle of black cats and a circle of white ones; then a circle of all sorts of cats; and, finally, a centerpiece of assorted kittens. It was very beautiful, but the Moors curse his memory to this day."

You are telling me that I have exactly ONE reason to be impressed with French Diplomacy over the centuries???

OK...I'll give you that one...but since then, I think I win this discussion...

The French..ha!    Posted 12-23-2003 at 16:42:42       [Reply]  [No Email]
We went to see Crichton's "Timeline" a few weeks ago w/another couple, and as we walked out to our cars, I heard myself say outloud...I can't believe I was rooting for the French." ...turned at least one person's head.

Would LOVE to see that trailer...

However...I am...Um...Lets say...Not a fan of QT (that is Apples' 'Quick Time' movie 'viewer')...Insidious bugger...

Suffice it to say, I have seen it in its' 'Glory-Days' and it is not what it once was...It is now Spyware filled software that installs itself many more places than it needs to be on a PC...And is nasty to get rid of...

I'll take your word about the movie I guess...

Top Cat was sound asleep in here.
The sounds woke him and disturbed him.
He came over to my arm to stop me.
I did not get one and quit cause it bothered Top Cat so much.
