I got a couple of projects on the schedule that would be GREATLY simplified if I had a hollow chisel mortiser.

Seriously considering getting one, looking at a Delta 14-651 for around $240.

Any comments, recommedations or sources would be welcomed.

If you're not going to use it constantly, you might consider the kit that allows your drill press to act as a hollow chisel mortiser. Of course, I'm assuming you have a drill press. If not maybe buying the drill press and the kit for a bit more makes more sense than the dedicated mortiser. Just something to consider. The link shows you the kit.

The kit doesn't work anywhere nearly as good as the dedicated mortiser! And, YES i've used both to compare.

I may be wrong, but i think Delta updated there's not real long ago.

Only other brand in Delta's price range i'd look at, is the "Shop Fox" model. I know guys that have bought one and like it very much. I think it has features the Delta doesn't.

Thanks, Robert, for confirming my suspicion.

I've had a few "combo" tools, still have a Shopsmith as a matter of fact, and have NEVER seen a combo tool work as well as a dedicated tool.

I'll look into the Shop Fox thing. Also looked at a Jet in that price range. Couple fellers have told me that the Delta beat out the Jet by a narrow margin in the "shoot out" tests in the woodworking magazines.
