They had trouble with rear ends from the factory
can imagine what 100 hp would do.

I wish he had two. I was really hoping to get the matched set.

Gee, I could buy 8 or 10 real tractors with that kind of money.

For a lot of people they are real tractors. Just depends on what you need it for. If your clearing a driveway, tending a small peice of land ect they are a good tractor. They are easy to fix but parts are pretty high if you are into restoring one. They are the Art Deco tractor like the Ferguson 20 & 30 of the same era. I like the look of them real simple and to the point. Small enought you can put them in a regular garage and lots of implments still made you can use with them. Now if you need a tractor that can plow large feilds or pull heavy implment that is a different story. I also like power steering and brakes on mine. Having owned many 9,2, & 8Ns I have found them to be fun tractors to work with. But I needed one for different reasons and my Massey Ferguson 135 is kind of ugly but it is a Ugly Duckling and acts like a Swan when using it. The Massey is still not a big tractor but for me it is perfect like the 8Ns for a lot of people. Mark H.

ugly tractor ?????    Posted 12-24-2003 at 19:48:09       [Reply]  [No Email]
Any real tractor man know there is no such thing as an ugly tractor.

I like it but Massey squared off the tractor and it looks like the hood was flatend down. Nice part is it works Great doing it's job. I do like all tractors tho. Mark H.

Les - you are a funny guy. I am going to bite here and ask just what are "...real tractors." I won't be offended because I just bought a Ford 8N - my wife will let me have more than one ;-)

I was just being a wise guy. I have a few tractors. None of them is a Ford. I have a Case VAC, Case SC and Farmall M. Ford 8Ns are great for what they're for, like Willy said.
To some people they are "tractor". I just think they are way overpriced. (So are John Deeres and Farmall Cubs, IMHO.) I'd rather spend my money and have 2 lesser known tractors than spend it all on an 8N. Everybody (around here anyway) knows a Ford tractor. But if you start talking Case or Massey Harris or Cockshutt or Oliver, you get blank looks from people.
Now if I could get an 8N for the same price that Salmoneye got his for, bring me a half a dozen of them.

imo, if you have a good runnng example from the 40s/50s of anything that pulls what you want it to, you probably have a real tractor. unless like me, it's a john deere b. then you'd have a real hazard :)

Real tractors are the ones Fords have to get unstuck.

Everything around here comes with those stiff chains on front to push the mean green tractors out with. Everytime I see that movie where the little boy is being pulled out kicking and screaming I think of all the other color tractors that the JD's have pulled out into the real world where everyone could see their reluctant kicking and screaming. heh heh
