I have a nephew in Ft Wainwright and from what I gather he loves it up there

I spent 22 years in Alaska, 2 years in cabin 3 miles north of Healy, which I love, and twenty years in Anchorage which I hated. The time I spent traveling around the state with the National Guard was great. Anchorage is just another big city, only a 45 min drive from Alaska. When I moved back to Wyoming I found every thing here I was looking for when I moved to Alaska.
