PETA site

Okay, y'all don't beat me to a bloody pulp on this. I went to this site out of curiousity. Sometimes people on here get to talking about PETA, so I thought I would go see what they were all about for myself. I know they are for animals, but I wanted to look more in detail.

Now, I am a meat eater, and I don't think that will ever change. I love a good steak off the grill, and we always have a hamburger hot dog feast on say, the Fourth of July and such. I am not completely educated on the butchering processes of some animals. I do not know how they kill cows, I hear they bash them in the head, I don't know if that is true, I guess chickens get their heads cut off. If I had to do it myself, I would probably stick to chicken a lot.

ANYWAY, there are a lot of different categories on their site. One, disturbed me to no end.

I buy Iams dog food for Tip. I won't anymore. OMG! I guess I am just nieve. I don't like to see the ugly side of the world. If you decide to go there, play the video of the IamsCruelty site. I had no idea. The part that got me was the lack of care, and cutting chunks of muscle from the dogs leg??!!?? Excuse me, but we humans have a much less painful way to measure muscle mass. Can't it be applied to animals? There is way too much sadness on this particular site. I had no idea. They have a list of sites that provides wholesome foods for dogs, without the testing, I will be looking into those.

Time to get back to basics & raise the meat ourselves.

Kelly, before I made any rash decisions on my feeding program, I'd have to have more than PETA's word. I would have to have documented proof from God, and Moses would have to hand deliver the documents to me before I'd believe ANYTHING PETA has to say.
There is no more dishonest activist group in the world than these pond scum sucking pigs.
But that's just my honest opinion.

But Ron,    Posted 12-28-2003 at 11:13:05       [Reply]  [No Email]
They had video and pictures. Tell me your take on it. What have they lied about before? Just curious, I don't know much about them.

There is a video shot by, and shown by PETA of a commercial layer house, containing 50,000 dead 22 week old leghorns. The video explains how these birds died a horrible death by suffocation, in 100 heat. The ventilation fans stopped due to a power outage. The back up generators didn't start, and the alarm system failed to notify anyone. THAT'S THE VIDEO!
Now the truth, according to court records, and PETA personell's own admission.
The farm was left in the care of a competent employee, he was notified of the immenent death of his child, he left. PETA shut down the power, the generator, and the alarm. They watched the birds smother, then took video and left.
Hmmmm, true video? Yep, Would it have happened if they hadn't caused it? NOPE!
Oh the child's near death situation? Total lie created by PETA to draw the employee off the premises.
That's how they operate, and they'll admit it on the public air waves.
I once heard 'ole Heidy whatshername, from PETA finally admit, that given a choice between the life of a child and an animal, she'd have to allow the child to die.
'Nuff said here's the soapbox.
OH yeah, cost of 50,000 22 week old layers, $2.50 each. The farmer is bankrupt!

Man, that IS lowdown. So, how do you know what is real and what isn't? Could the Iams company really be doing all that? Do you think it was true?

My husband and I had a talk about it. He said they do lie a lot, and they aren't in it to save the animals all the time. Guess he was right. They let those birds die just to prove a point.

I just don't think animals should be tested on. I told Ian there is always somebody out there willing to be tested on for money, and so why not let them, if they are stupid enough. He says that wouldn't be allowed.

Have you got any other articles or sources for me to look at what they have done, like the chickens?

SHAME ON YOU RON    Posted 12-28-2003 at 13:16:00       [Reply]  [No Email]

PETA have been caught making their own videos before and claiming they were "evidence" of wrongdoing by someone else. They will stop at no level of cruelty to animals to try to promote their own agenda (which mostly involves fundraising)

And how can we forget...    Posted 12-28-2003 at 11:38:21       [Reply]  [No Email]
ELF ('Earth Liberation Front' peta fanatics) that burn down research facilities with people and ANIMALS in them...

No cruelty there...No sir...

The more you learn about the process of making and what goes into Dog Food the less you will want to feed it to your Pets. One of the reasons we make our own for our dogs. You do have to know how to make it right or you will cause them harm feeding it to them. One of the big things is they need 7 times more Calcium than we do in there diets and that is hard to provived with out adding it to the food. You get other things out of balance you will ruin the bones, toxcidity iron levels with to much liver ect. Testing is needed to get it right but the way they do it does not agree to me. Repeated tests that have been done befor is a waste. Glad they made the books on the subject but so they have to research it over and over again? Mark H.

willy with this mad cow stuff in the media, im not concerned about myself so much but sure am worried about what im feeding my dogs, all the labels say animal by-products, chicken by-products etc. i watched a show on tv about the rendering process and this is what they make many things out of including dog food isn,t it?

Willy-N    Posted 12-28-2003 at 12:56:09       [Reply]  [No Email]
Dogs that are put down at the Vets go to the Rendering plants for dog food! Any cancerouse parts removed are renderd too. All the animals we could not eat and things you would not belive goes right in the batch and mixed all up. Sawdust for fiber you name it. If you were to look up By Products on the net or read some of the Maufacting Books you would not beleive what those words mean. By Products is a nice word for Cr*p they would not put on there label so you will buy it. The word Chicken can mean Feathers, beaks guts and feet ect but when you read it you think of those nice cuts of white meat you would eat. Mark H.

talking about feeding our dogs, I was a depression baby, and we always had a dog, sometimes two. Strange, but it never got dog food, too poor I guess. bones from the butcher, any kind, and table scraps. all of them lived quite a while it seems, and never took one to a vet. Sure don't make dogs like they used to huh?

Willy-N    Posted 12-28-2003 at 15:19:58       [Reply]  [No Email]
The table scraps are better than the food you can buy. The bones gave them there Calcium they needed. Ever wonder why so many dogs get Cancer now and alergic reactions to things? In the begining they made dog food to be used if needed for times when traveling ect now they like to say don't feed them what you eat it is bad for them stick with ours so we can make a living off your dogs. Your right the dogs back then had it better! Mark H.

Nope...    Posted 12-28-2003 at 15:39:23       [Reply]  [No Email]
"Ever wonder why so many dogs get Cancer now and alergic reactions to things?

Stop 'paying' money for dogs and you will have the healthiest animals around...

The 'strung-out' breeding of any animal for 'purity' is what puts them at risk for the 'diseases' you mentioned...Add to that 'hip-dysplasia', 'Dry-Skin', and a host of others and they are all (according to the smart guys that list this stuff) attributable to not enough genetic diversity in the genetic pool for any given 'breed'...Easily found by doing a Google search...

Where I come from, dogs are 'free'...I will never own a 'pure-bred' anything...I will never 'buy' a dog...Mutts are by far, the most intelligent, personable, friendly, accommodating, loving, gregarious, smelly, ugly, no-account, most lovable animals that ever walked this earth...

But I digress ;-)

thats the way i grew up too ret our dogs got table scraps and bones from the butcher, now i guess im just to lazy and figure if i buy what im told is the best ,then im feeding them the best i can,not so, when all this mad cow comes up like it did here last spring , i have been worried more as to what i feed them, but it would seem all the commerical food is the same, and im not a very good cook so i don,t figure they would want me cooking up there suppers . pretty hard to know whats right to do .
