Rug Problems - rubber backed, etc. Ugh!

I used to get a lot of wear out of the rubber
backed rugs. The ones in the bath, and around the
john. The latest ones I had less than a year, I just washed a second time--fell apart. (Yes, I do
wash them in cold water!)
In my hallway (oak floors), the first ones that were under 10 yr. warranty w/rubber backed lasted me 10 yrs. from 1989 to 1999. So I went back to the same catalog/store and ordered the same rugs. These fell apart, too, and only lasted 4 yrs., and God knows where the warranties are, or if I even kept them--since the first ones lasted!
Anyone else experiencing this? I am beginning
to think there's a better way, or a cheaper way.
I am trying to switch back to the 100% cotton
rugs--when I can find them! But they take forever
to dry! Anything better--I am listening!

Rubber is not what it used to be anymore. Now all the tires on things just crack and fall apart if they are not for motor vehicals. The stuff likes to stick to the floors to if not moved around. Mark H.

How can I get the corners of my rug to lay flat instead of curling up?

Yes, I know what you mean about the white stuff!
I bought a large area rug from u-no-where and now all
the white stuff is on the floor. I thought I had
bought jute backing! Ha!
