Stinky sink drains

Does anyone know how to make a homemade sink drain cleaner? Drain-O and all those store bought cleaners are expensive and full of chemicals. My sink drain smells sometimes and I don't want to put anything down it that might harm my chickens or anything that might want to drink from it. (I live in the country) I figure there has to be a homemade remedy for a stinky sink drain. Anyone have any suggestions?

Your Trap under the sink just may be empty of water. Sometimes windy days will push or suck it out. Run a little water in the sink to fill the trap below it and see if that helps also. Mark H.

And if the baking soda gets kinda stuck in there, pour some vinegar in over it. It'll bubble like crazy and works like a natural drain cleaner.

be kinda careful with vinegar - we ate up a metal trap with it before switching to plastic - turned the thing to paper :)
