We are buying a property with a man made pond. What should we do to maintain it so it is clear, etc.Right now it appears "sludgy" with a milky, stagnant appearance. Thanks

Contact your extension agent. They can direct you to resources. Depending where you are it may be natural. Lakes in the north "turnover" in winter and that could be some of the problem. But get an expert's opinion. After all you do pay their salary.

Shock it with a herbicide (safe for fish), then put color in it to keep the algea from growing back.
