Do people insist on going into areas where there are wild animals that they have had NO experience with and not bringing anything to defend themselves?

Wouldn't it be prudent to at least bring a stun gun or something? If I was going to take a bike ride through the hills of California where there are KNOWN to be mountain lions, I would at least bring a bid stick with a nail in the end of it. ANYTHING would be better than a water bottle. Clip a stun gun to my belt. Geeez. ???

The best way for a biker/hiker to handle a cougar is to place your right arm at a 60 degree angle and drop a treat in his mouth. OOPS, sorry Cindi, I guess that only works for Steve.

That state is so liberal, I doubt if it is legal to even own a handgun of any kind. Mase would be better but then you have PETA on your back. when you come right down to it, the best way to wake up those with a "Bambi" complex is when they have to pay for a car deer accident or get mauled by a poor critter whose habitat has been taken by multi-million dollar homes. They made their beds, now they can live with it.

It's not that they don't bring anything to defend themselves with, it's that they don't understand that wild animals are not the cute, cuddly things that the nearest petting zoo has. Case in point: quite a few years ago the town I was living in bought some semi-wild Trumpeter Swans for a park/pond. If you had food they would get to within 10 feet. Some idiot found the swan's nest and took her 10 year to "look at the duckies" Needless to say, the swans defended their young. The woman defended her young by beating one of the swans to death with her shoe. And then sued the city for "knowingly harboring dangerous animals and putting the public at risk". I haven't been following the mountain lion story, but I'd be willing to bet it was somewhere along those lines. Some idiot treating a wild animal like a pet.

Hmmm... I thought it was the government's job to defend people (At least, that's wht they're teaching my kid in school!)

Why, if people started being able to defend themselves, they might realize that they could do other things for themselves. Who knows where THAT could lead!

a person armed is a citizen, aperson unarmed is a victim. Remember guns kill, not people (read as mountain lion). I hope that whole area goes back to nature and the sabertooth tigers come back and take over. Yeah, I'm in one of those moods. Ron,Ar

In most places the bikers and other tree huggers go you can't carry any firearm. I guess you are supposed to reason with the bears and mt. lions and tell them you understand their frustration and please don't eat me. If you are so foolish as to be armed and shoot one of these little darlings for attacking and taking off a leg you would be in more trouble than if you had killed a human.

But can I pack a gun if my kids are with me while riding our bikes thru lion territory? If the answer is no, then what's all the hub bub about the crocodile guy? LOL!! Get what I'm saying? Protect them, don't protect them, which is it? LOL!! By not packing a gun, etc. would that not be the same as what the seasoned croc guy did? LOL!

Don't you know the most dangerous place for a baby (in the United States) is in his mother's womb?

There you go again...    Posted 01-10-2004 at 07:42:41       [Reply]  [No Email]
Thinking...

Where would we be without sheer stupidity?...

We need idiots to keep doing what they do best as examples to the in-betweens...The 'In-Betweens' are the ones that are trainable...They do not think for themselves, but can be taught by example...Without the total idiots, and the Smarties like us, the In-Betweens would be totally lost...

Baaaa....Baaaaa...

LMAO

I don't think you can get a permit in CA unless you're an actor or politician...besides that if you shot a wild animal you'd be strung up by the short hairs.

Now, now, you know those nature worshiping California types are not into carrying weapons.
Guns kill, not mountain lions!!
They are willing to be sacrifices on "mother natures" alter.
There is no accounting for those is there?
