Perhaps this board has always been this slanted and just plain mean, I don’t know because I did not research the archives when I first came on here a couple of months ago. Perhaps I just discovered it when it was in a “nice” lull.

But I have discovered that some of the posters on here have been dominating the board with and iron keyboard and it’s (the boards) venue by bullying others with different ideas and opinions. Perhaps they own the board and I just don’t know it. Perhaps they gained Royalty by attrition. That’s a moot point and not what this is about anyway.

I’m all for a lively conversation and opposing views in a respectful forum. The anonymity that boards like this allow do tend to give people self imposed rights of aggression and persecution of others with opposing views. Name calling for instance is a good example as well as belittling of a person for their opinions and beliefs that they may hold dear even if others don’t.

I’m sure some will call me a “wimp” and some will call me “stupid” as well as other much worse things just for posting this, but having respect for others opinions does not mean I agree with them. It’s just common courtesy to allow their expressions, as I would expect them to allow mine: without abuse. When I do not agree I either respond with an opposing post trying in my poor “not so Cindi” finesse and style of making my case. Without calling my fellow poster a $%^@*)#% idiot even if I believe they are. Many times I try to make a “funny” (sometime with little success).

It’s called free speech and respect. Some seem to think that free speech is a “free for all”. You can take that attitude and drive others from the board as well as keep bystanders and wannabe posters (newbies) from posting for fear of offending the “powers that be” or you can allow them to express themselves with common courtesy and just not respond if you can’t be civil to them. If no one responded they would get bored and go away on their own anyway.

Maybe some of the members if you will of this board should just sit back and read for a while or go back and re-read some of the things that have been turning up the last few weeks. Perhaps you have lost your perspective.

In a nutshell, if I were to just now stumble on this board it would not look like nice country people to me right now. At the risk of offending those that I came to enjoy and converse with ……….. It looks more like mob mentality to me right now. Maybe it’s just the election. Lol

This is meant to be constructive criticism for me as much as for anyone else and an attempt to try and keep my perspective and help this board be about “Nice Kountry People” a tradition that seems to be dying on here as well as everywhere else. "Do unto others ........ ".

Perhaps I’m hanging around the Amish too much. LOL
No offense intended toward anyone.

Sorry for the long post

"nice kountry people"
How should they "look"?
Folks here look real nice to me.
Prehaps if I were a Democrat or "liberal" and I just came on here,
I might feel differently.
I realize more of the folks seem to lean to the conservative/right,
but does that make us mean or a mob?
I could still enjoy reading and posting here,
I just might avoid political threads.

I subscribe to the idea of "You've done nothing when you have bested a fool" each of us will have to decide for ourself what makes a fool

Newgen    Posted 01-14-2004 at 07:01:27       [Reply]  [No Email]
Doc, about what you said about some posters owning the board, with a royalty status, I've always felt that way. I think you have to post on here a certain number of times for a certain length of time to be inducted into their "Mutual admiration society". Which is why I made a New Years resolution to just read, not post. But that said, what's the point of making resolutions if you can't break em? So here I am-LOL Actually I think the majority of people on this board are probably nice people, but as a group they can be a little intimidating. I realize what I'm saying will probably go against the grain of "the group", and I really am not trying to be mean here. Oh well, time to get back to work, sorry if I offended anyone, have a good day.

Like ya, if that is any help...

Salmoneye, Who Does Not Think That It Takes A Certain Number Of Posts To Be 'Accepted' But Feels That It Helps To Get To Know Someone...

PS.....And the lilly-livered suckers that don't have enough belief in their own 'convictions' to pick a single handle and stick with it, should just not bother posting...That is one thing that rankles the 'irregular regulars'...And then they all cry that there is a conspiracy against them...Sound familiar?

PPS.....Get a thick skin, or get off the net...

Your right Salmoneye, you need a hide thicker than an old Hog Pig to hang around this board.

mumbo jumbo, mumbo jumbo, mumbo jumbo! what have the amish got to do with anything? there are as many crooks, liars,. thieves, etc. among the "plain people" as any other group of people.

Sid    Posted 01-14-2004 at 05:46:50       [Reply]  [No Email]
Doc I had to come back before left and ask a question. Just exactly what did you mean by that"not so Cindi" Not that cindi needs help in defending herself if need be, but it just makes me feel you are not practicing what you preach while you are still in the pulpit. I think you made your point but feel you were out of line singling her or anyone else out. Sid, who is not questioning your right to free speech but who is wondering just how many on both sides are willing to practice their RESPONSIBILITIES

Doc    Posted 01-14-2004 at 12:17:14       [Reply]  [No Email]
That was a compliment to Cindi as I cannot speak as elequently as her.

You misunderstood or perhaps I just didn't express it properly. I have the utmost respect for Cindi's writing style.

Cindi    Posted 01-14-2004 at 07:09:47       [Reply]  [No Email]
I musta missed the part where I got singled out....was it good? (grin)

Oh I found it.....    Posted 01-14-2004 at 07:18:46       [Reply]  [No Email]
I somehow blipped over that entire paragraph. I think it was a compliment maybe? Anyway, I took it like that, but that just me, usin' my finesse and stuff. Lol! It's so HARD for me to get upset over things I have no control over.

Cindi who has been singled out many times before but not by the cops or anyone really scary thank goodness.

Gary, Mt. Hermon, La    Posted 01-14-2004 at 05:34:20       [Reply]  [No Email]
Why don't we all just post by a new rule?

"If you can't say anything good, then don't say anything at all"

~Lenore    Posted 01-14-2004 at 08:09:00       [Reply]  [No Email]
Gary, that sounds very idealist to me.

"If you can't say anything good, then don't say anything at all"

A great idea;
Now who gets to decide what is "GOOD"?

Do the conservatives or the librerals or the libertarians or the country foks or the city visitors?

WHO?

Just kidding ;)

Doc, I feel you but:

1. Freedom of speech also means a poster can be as
much of a jerk as he wants to be. Like Monty Python
said....don't watch. This is an unmoderated board and
unmoderated boards can heat up. Frankly, I prefer
them from moderated boards, but that's my preference.

2. I practice operant conditioning with posts I don't like.
I don't respond. Most posters have no problem
disagreeing with me or others. Lately we've been able
to laugh at ourselves more. There are a few posters who
seem genuinely surpirsed when someone has a
different perspective. As for those posters who need to
call you names, just don't reply.

So I say "play on".

Paula

But...    Posted 01-14-2004 at 05:51:46       [Reply]  [No Email]
I wanna call people names...

Can I at least use 'Ninny'?...Is 'Fruitloop' acceptable?...'Snookums' would probably get me slapped...

I have to vent somehow...

Since I stopped beating the dog, kicking old ladies and pulling the wings off the chickens, I have been bottling it up inside and I am about to explode...

Salmoneye, The Nincompoop

Paula    Posted 01-14-2004 at 07:03:12       [Reply]  [Send Email]
You're just not passive aggressive enough Salmoneye!
The right way to do this is:
-read post
-snort with contempt.
-laugh at post, show to agreeable friend, share laugh at
poster's expense.
-make a level headed repsons with no name calling.

Paula

I remember College Profs like Doc. Peace activists, friendly and quite sincere. They lived in a world of their own, not wanting to acknowledge or understand the real world. Debate is good. Opinions, no matter how strong can be a learning experience as long as you keep an open mind.

ALIAS    Posted 01-14-2004 at 04:57:59       [Reply]  [No Email]
Gosh Doc,

Normerally, it goes against my nature to come down on anybody. But, I read a lot of hate in your post which asked if GW was out of control. Now, I will support till the bitter end, your right to free speech, just so long as you respect mine. In that light, I give you leave to say whatever you want about our president. And, I give myself leave to respond in kind.

Now, the fact that you've written this rather lengthly post tells me you want to belong to and feel comfortable with this group. Personally, I don't see a problem with that. For, who am I to say who should or should not leave messages? So, for the love of country living go ahead and post as often as you like. But, what ever you do, don't get upset if someone gives you a bad review.

Whereas, some say "Have a good day", I say is "Have a good life". gfp from Md.

I think it's partly the time of year, because this is not the only one of my boards that's been looking a bit "grumpy" lately. And as I recall, it was about this time last year that things got tense on various boards. I just try to stay out of it all, ignore insults, and hope things get better when spring comes.

Joe Dirt    Posted 01-14-2004 at 05:29:00       [Reply]  [No Email]
I agree with you there! This time of year the general population seems to get cranky. I go to a board designed for arguements.... Boy is it ever getting wild over there!

it's pretty normal....    Posted 01-14-2004 at 04:58:42       [Reply]  [No Email]
The board swings this way and that and can be at times a hostile environment. Sometimes I'm in the mood to fight with it, sometimes I'm too busy or I just don't really care to get involved. I respect others opinions and I say so, and I never tell anybody what they should or shouldn't say, unless it's gets obscene. I have disagreed with many people on this board and I think for the most part I have managed to keep it non-personal, and I think that is the key. It's a lot harder to UN-PI*S someone off, than it is to take the steps to makes sure that you don't pi*s them off to begin with. Every single person, without exception has the right to say what they think without having someone say, 'oh, gee, you're a dumb-azz'.

To whom mentioned my post about Bush. You are semi- correct. I am against Bush and all of his big business backing as well as his political Christianity. (note: this is only my opinion) However I do not hate the man (I'm sure he is a nice person) nor will I bring up his prior problems in his personal life. I'm only interested in his political agenda and his personal life as it effects the aforementioned.

I'm a democrat (he says at the risk of being shot)that is against abortion, gun control and other pro democrat agendas. Sounds like an oxymoron I'm sure but it's where I stand. I am a working man's democrat true and simple but even so I will not reduce myself to name calling him or you.

That's fine if you want to state opinions otherwise. I'm all for it. I want to hear arguments to the contrary in hopes I might learn something new. But the name calling is just not called for in any respectful forum.

Besides, if I had my way Tom Harkin from Iowa would be president and that's a fact.

Gotta get to work..... everyone have a good day.

You need to stop hanging out at 'Move On', and think for yourself...

The 'Democratic Party' died with JFK...The current leftists in charge of the DNC are just afraid to call themselves Socialists and Communists because everyone would finally understand their full agenda and no one would ever vote for them again...
