Here is a picture of me and a few of the snakes I picked up after my neighbor had uncovered them when he was digging a pond. I picked up a total of 14 snakes of which 8 were Yellow bellied racers and 6 were northern water snakes. They were all in one den and in hibernation for the winter when they got uncovered. I called the Sedgwick County Zoo and got the herpetologist to come by my house and pick them up. She was going to "winter" the snakes at her house and then turn them loose in the spring. I was just going to have my wife Lawana take a picture of me holding one (1) snake but the "snake gal" reached in the bucket and grabbed the WHOLE BUNCH and plopped them right in my hands. Only one snake decided to bite me and it was a very minor bite at that. It did draw a tiny bit of blood.
Hope you enjoy the picture.

I try and explain Black Water Snakes to people...

I just send them to Shelburne pond...They will slide right up into and through the boat...A might startling the first time a 6 or 7 footer does that...

Interesting but I thought this was going to be a report of what Cindi was up to.

That's funny, I did too! Excuse me sir, what is the Mouser part? Is that your last name? I wonder if we're related. I'm a Mouser.

GunNut    Posted 01-15-2004 at 07:35:04       [Reply]  [No Email]
The "mouser" refers to mouse and rat catching critters. I did think about your last name AFTER I had posted and it was too late to change the "Subject". I do hope no offence was taken.

Oh no!    Posted 01-15-2004 at 09:41:19       [Reply]  [No Email]
I just got a little confused is all, which is not a foreign feeling for me. Look around. One of my favorite expressions is...'oh...I get it now.' I'm also very used to reacting to big barn cats (mousers) and certain guns..(mausers)

Oh I get it....    Posted 01-15-2004 at 02:54:13       [Reply]  [No Email]
...the SNAKES are mousers. As in mouse catchers. I may be slow but I'm not stopped.

Ooooohhhhh Cindi!!! You need more sleep!!!

I also thought by the title of the thread it was gonna be about you, but when I saw the picture I got it. You're usually sharp as a razor, so I think you need a little more shut eye!!!
