Maybe i shouldn't be sewing but after all the hassle of fixing this machine up, i really should get some good out of it. So here we go, i'm learning fast & expect more problems before my first GREAT potholder :)

1) How do i re-align the sewing machine belt? Are there timing marks somewhere?

2) And how come this thing misses half the stitches sometimes? Tension? Bobbin? Belt alignment?

Welllllll... As the father of my wife's 4-H club, I get hollared at a lot when those machines don't work. If the belt is like most machines I've worked on, there's no timing to it - they just convey energy from one pulley to another, and all they need is to be snug enough not to slip. Bobbin thread tension, as well as needle thread tension are both important, and need to be set properly, both for stitch quality as well as skipping problems. Dreamweaver hit another problem right on the head: Not only do you need a good sharp needle, but don't fuss with the cheepies: Buy a good name brand needle - Singer or better, It'll pay for itself. Also buy good thread - Kmart 4/$1.00 just don't make it! If in doubt take it to the sewing machine shop, and pay the price for a cleanup and tuneup.

Old Warrior, there are several reasons why you can skip stitches, one being tension adjustment. I believe the main reason for skipped stitches, however, is a dull needle. ALWAYS replace the needle with each new project. I know it seems costly (actually not, though), but the results of a nice sharp needle and perfect stitching is well worth it.

As far as belt adjustment is concerned, I'm not sure about that. Good luck with your efforts. I'M impressed!
