From what I understand and may not be totally correct is that most birds carry a strain or many strains of Influenza. Yet it cannot be transmitted to humans unless going through another host, mostly swine. I once read that the majority of flu viruses come out of China due to the way they herd their geese and swine together. How this bird influenza goes directly to humans from a chicken is a good question.
