A poem I wrote this morning, The Horse

I wrote this today. It was inspired by something I read in one of Mark Rashid's books (which I recommend to anyone who loves horses).

A horse's instincts motivate:
He does not have the power to hate...
He does his best to re-adjust
(He wants so very much to trust).
If he won't follow your command,
Be patient please, and understand
His goal is simply to survive
And make it through the day alive.

Adapting to the world of man
Was never in a horse's plan.
He'd like a herd that's roaming free,
But we have changed his destiny.
We love the horse, and so we try
To get him to see eye-to-eye.
Meanwhile, his wish is to survive
And make it through each day alive.

I write a poem every day, with very few exceptions. I just try to be wise about which ones I share, and on what board.

Here's the real inspiration for the poem.

Blue is looking good Donna! Great poem.
What kind of bit are you using on that boy?

Just a curb bit, not a very severe one. The previous owner of the horse insisted I take the bridle Blue was used to, and I have found he DOES NOT like to have it messed with. I tried another bridle and bit I had around here, and he was a total mess. So, that is HIS bridle, and it is the one I'll continue to use.

LOL, I had the same problem with Dusty. Just a mild grazing curb, or she just rides right through the bit, and has NO brakes! I tried her with a d-ring snaffle and had a total knot head on my hands. With the curb she is a push button horse.
