Took ages to get my picture in the gallery. He is a red deer in a forest called Dunwich near where I live. He lost one antler fighting in the rut. I followed him to get a good picture he had just had a small fight with another stag but gave up quickly obviously knowing he had no chance. When I took this picture it was frosty about 8am and there was lots of roaring going on, maybe it was a bit dangerous being so close but he didn't know I was there. Its one of those times I will never forget.

that's quite a big deer! or at least he carries himself well. we have more whitetails here than when i grew up - they get up to 250 pounds or so. a few locals still raise their families on venison - with the few mild winters lately, there's plenty to go around. i set out a haybale for a fawn with a shot shoulder - she puts a little weight on it now. :)

Do all the wild game animals still belong to the crown?

Not sure really I'm not up on history. I know you can shoot anything in season on your own land or with the permission of the land owner.Theres alot of grouse and pheasant shooting over here but it's a bit snobish - not for the likes of me! I would be interested to know the species of deer you have in in America. We have Red, Roe, Fallow, Sika, Muntjac and chinese water deer

In the US we have mule deer, blacktail deer and whitetail deer. There are introduced species as well like fallow deer.I think your red deer are more closely related to American Elk or Wapiti.
