This is mostly for the east coast folks but I was wondering if anyone out there has personally seen a cougar. My ladies grandma swears she seen one a month or so ago and a logger friend of mine swears he's seen them a number of times. Around here (n.e. pa) the official stance is that they don't exist in the wild. Personally I've never seen one, or even tracks for that matter.

I live in Michigan and people in my area kept reporting them. Of course the DNR said it is "impossible". While getting ready for dear season my husband and I were in the woods and there was a tree that looked like a scratching post. It started about eye level and went down. I am 5'11, so it was up there. Well after a few articles in the paper and the DNRS refusal to admit they were here, one was shot while it was atttacking a farmers goat down the road. This thing was very large. There are still reports of them and still reports from farmers who have livestock missing or dead. The DNR said the one case was an isolated incident. Of course they said there wasn't any coyotes either and I see them now as often as I see deer. If people in you area are reporting seeing them I would take their word for it. Unless you have good reason to doubt them.

Yes...Once while deer hunting in the NEK (NorthEast Kingdom of Vermont)...

My father has seen 3 within 5 miles of where I saw mine, and one of his was a 'dark phase'...Also know of one logger, a Doctor and two grammar school teachers in that area that have seen them...There is a web page devoted to sighting of Catamount...

Was reading the report of the attacks / deaths in CA ,after the last attack a field study was made public . They put radio collars on a couple of them and tracked them ,,, It seems they spend more time closer to humans than first thought , they found cougars /pumas rest for most of the day just 100-300 yards from the trails out there . Then start hunting late afternoon , or dusk most of the time , the last death out there was around noon they figure .... they still don't know why that one(?) attacked ,,,, looked healthy ....maybe lack of easy meals ? ..

Have heard unoffical reports they are around here (MA) in the swamps and travel the high power lines right of ways local farmers report missing /killed eaten critters and a track every so often ...

No, but my crazy neighbors' (see post below) daughter did a few years ago. Again here in NH, the official position of the F&G folks is "there ain't any here". Horse hockey!
