The Elusive Snow Shovel

Yesterday I broke the handle off the snow shovel. I figured it was time for a new one. After all this one has had the shovel head reattached 4 or 5 times. So I decided I would just pick one up at Wal-Mart because I had a few other things to grab. I looked all over at Wal-Mart and finally had to break down and find an employee. I asked about a snow shovel and they told me they only ordered a few this year. I was puzzled. This is Michigan, you could sell snow shovels all year long by the side of the road, like a lemonade stand!!!!! I asked why they only ordered a few. He was unsure. My guess is that the 6 years olds in Bangladesh didn't know what a snow shovel was. Oh well, I thought I will just go down the road to good old Kmart. Guess what? They didn't order ANY!!!! Not one snow shovel! I could not believe this. I gave up looking and went home. So my big plan tomorrow is to find out where in the he!! you buy a snow shovel at in Michigan!!!!

I have lived on a farm all of my life and never owned a snow shovel, always use a grain scoop shovel. The one I got now is heavy plastic, it works great, infact I just finished takin a hard pack of snow out of our wolves kennel.
We had a guy a few years ago in our local community that would drive around at night and steal all of the snow shovels that people would leave outside so his kids would be able to get more jobs shoveling snow. Then he finally got so he would take anything that wasn't glued down.

Go to a good old Ace Hardware store, bet they have them there. Mama and I were talking about Walmart today. She saw on a Lou Dobbs pole taken that something like 83 percent that voted do NOT want a Walmart in their neighborhood. She said take a look around, everything closes. A hardware store that had been there forever across the way from the Walmart in her town closed down. My favorite decorator doo dad and what not shop closed for good. Not saying I don't go to Walmart, I am guilty, I have to pinch my pennies where I can. I do miss the hardware stores though. Harder and harder to find, like the true Barber Shops.

You got that right Kelly.
It backfired on Wally world here though. There are 2 or 3 pretty decent hardware stores in town. Wallymart moved in and started really putting the squeeze on, it was getting so it was hard to find a bolt or washer since the hardware stores couldn't afford to buy stock.
Well apparently WallyMart works on about a 10 year plan, after 10 years prices start going UP on stuff that isn't on sale. So now people are going back to the Hardware stores where the employees know what a bolt is and know the difference between black iron and PVC pipe. The WallyMart is doing poorly.
I suppose they'll drop prices again soon. It'll be interesting to see if people get fooled twice. Call me a pessimist, but I'm betting they will.

Had a similar thing happen to me a few years ago. Busted the City(flat point) shovel chippin ice and couldn't find another in town. Finlly welded that one back together to get to spring. One thing I never understood is what happens to all the shovels when winter is over cause people got to have new ones for next winter.Anyway if you can't find one holler as I now got a couple of extras in the barn.

I had the same problem a couple years ago. I finally found one, but it was plastic, like that did me any good. :(
