I just heard an interesting myth debunking.

You probably have heard those same reactionary wackos say the earth is getting over populated and it must stop!!

Well it seems if you took the entire population of the entire earth and placed them ALL in Texas, it would be less crowded than New York City is.

Very interesting I thought. Amazing how those folks make up lies and tell them as facts to scare people.

Dieselrider    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:27:18       [Reply]  [No Email]
I knew it was all bunk but, thank you for that site. I'mm sendingf it to my son who always seems to get caught up in that kind of stuff.

How about the myth of global warming? I could use some global warming right about now.

How about the ozone layer thing that goes along with the global warming? Let's make that darn hole bigger and warm things up a bit.

Ozone Hole Smaller    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:43:35       [Reply]  [No Email]
Make sure you look at the dates of the links...The 'hole' has been getting increasigly smaller over the last few years...In fact, the 'Ozone Hole' website itself only has data up till 92 as since that time the data does not follow their model and has in fact started to get smaller LMAO...

They blamed that hole on freon, at least some of it but, freon is heavier than air. If you dumped freon out of a container it will go to the ground then into the first hole it comes too. I guess the ground hogs complained enough to have it changed. Or maybe he said he would quit looking for his shadow if they didn't stop using freon. So I guess the real truth is that no matter who you vote for it's the ground hogs running the world. Lol. Can't wait for spring, I'm gonna shoot a ground hog!

Now the Warming thingy...    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:45:49       [Reply]  [No Email]
Here is a good one...

Below is another Google search with more ammo than you could ever need...

Right now I would pay for some of that warming.-20Degrees F last night and a high of 18 today. I'm voting that the ice age is returning.Lol.

Bulldinkie, it's all a bunch of BS!!! That's the whole point of the post.

Les    Posted 01-31-2004 at 05:35:07       [Reply]  [No Email]
Another one is that "all the landfills are almost full". Well, go make another one, stupid.
It don't take long in flying over this country to figure out that there's still plenty of wide open spaces and plenty of room for more landfills, if needed.
People who aren't scared can't be controlled as easily. Liberals want to scare you and make you feel helpless so that they can control you better. It's been going on for a long time.

LMAO    Posted 01-31-2004 at 05:38:56       [Reply]  [No Email]
"Well, go make another one, stupid."

Once again...You perfectly crystalize the situation...

I love it...

I aim to entertain and enlighten. ";^) Sort of like Glenn Beck.
All those Malthusian hand-wringers do get kind of tiresome after a while. That myth can be debunked every day from now to kingdom come and there's still plenty of fools that want to believe it. Like that idiot with the pony tail at the debate down in Richmond back in '92 (or was it '96?) who needed Bill Clinton and the government to "take care of" him. If the number of people like that keeps growing, they've got us and life as we know it is not long for this country.

Salmoneye    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:02:34       [Reply]  [No Email]
I had forgotten that guy...

Wonder whatever happened to him...

Les    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:16:41       [Reply]  [No Email]
Which guy? Thomas Malthus, Bill Clinton or the guy with the pony tail?
My guess for the latter is that he's working for Terry McAwful at the DNC.

Salmoneye    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:26:30       [Reply]  [No Email]
The Pony Tail Guy...

I thought I saw him picking apples a couple years ago...Then I realized that was work, so it couldn't have been him...

I get it...    Posted 01-31-2004 at 05:02:12       [Reply]  [No Email]
I have known the 'facts' that you bring up, for a long time...

I find the knee-jerk reactions below very interesting...Seems as though people do not get that this is just a way of showing that there really is no 'overpopulation' in the world...Amazing how threatened people feel by it...

Salmoneye,

Redneck    Posted 02-01-2004 at 00:52:18       [Reply]  [No Email]
Cities are overpopulated and moving outward. City folks are not satisfied to live in the country after they get fed up with the city so they start another city. Too many people.

Redneck    Posted 01-31-2004 at 01:43:18       [Reply]  [No Email]
Guess I'm one of them nuts. Who would want to live stacked like rats in a rat hole like NYC? Wide open spaces good! Towns bad! Slow down the births before it is too late. Some folks want to actually live crowded and think everyone else should too. I hear it all the time doing jobs. Folks that have lived in the city all their lives, buy a 1/2 acre lot and honestly think that it is a ponderosa, their kids run wild like chickens with their head cut off. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Cindi    Posted 01-30-2004 at 20:58:27       [Reply]  [No Email]
Are you serious? I had no idea. That interests me, where'd you hear that?

Fact    Posted 01-31-2004 at 03:48:48       [Reply]  [No Email]
It has been a way of putting population into perspective for years...

If you did it with just the people (legal ones) in the US, it is something silly like 18 acres per family...

Salmoneye

Jon(WI)    Posted 01-31-2004 at 04:10:53       [Reply]  [No Email]
How big a family? Immediate family? I think we are debating disputable fact with disputable fact. China alone would overload Texas.

Salmoneye    Posted 01-31-2004 at 04:58:29       [Reply]  [No Email]
Hard to argue the basic 'math' of the example...

Read the link from my first post...Take the area of Texas in square miles...Mutiply by 5,280, and then 5,280 again to get the square footage of the state...Then divide by appx. 6 billion people on Earth and you get a bit over 6,000 square feet of area for a family of 5...The numbers do work out done this way without accounting for lakes and ponds and such...This is surface area...No accounting for buildings or infrastructure, just dirt under your feet...It does not account for food production either...But that can all be done in the now empty hinterlands...

Now if it was to actually 'work', you would need highrises and infrastructure like the world has never seen...

If you use only about 250 million as an example for the people in the US, then you get something like 18 acres of surface area per family...More land than I have now, but way less than my Mother...

It is a 'fact' and it is just an example to make a point...No need to get in a tizzy over it...It is just an example...No one ever suggested actually implementing anything like this...It is simply a mind puzzle to ponder...

Tonight on 20-20.
Stosell was debunking some myths we are fed as truths.
That was just the one that impressed me most.

Ron,Ar    Posted 01-30-2004 at 20:42:10       [Reply]  [No Email]
Lenore, don't even think about it, and don't be giving anybody no ideas either. I am planning on moving back down there someday and I don't want to find a bunch of yankees that talk funny when I get there, OK.

Dieselrider    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:22:44       [Reply]  [No Email]
Who you sayyinn tawks fuunny sun. Lol

~Lenore    Posted 01-30-2004 at 21:20:19       [Reply]  [No Email]
Brother Ron, not just yankees, but Frenchmen, Arabs, Chineese and all the whole world's population.

I hope that Stossell guy on 20-20 doesn't tell them all. I plan to stay here.

Hey-    Posted 01-30-2004 at 21:40:25       [Reply]  [No Email]
Don't be raggin on us funny talkin' yankees--some of us are just good ol' boy misplaced hillbillies-
Newgen--northern hillbilly and proud of it!!

Dennis    Posted 01-30-2004 at 20:13:49       [Reply]  [No Email]
Maybe that's true and maybe not, but one important thing is how do you feed all those people? Population danger might not be the number of people, but the strain on natural resources that that amount of population has
created. Pollution, fossel fuels, trees food etc.
Just to name a few. Plus the amount of disease closness spreads. IMHO

Ron/PA    Posted 01-31-2004 at 01:28:31       [Reply]  [No Email]
Don't worry about that Dennis, seems like anyone that would lump me in with the Frenchmen, Arabs, and Commies, would have enough BS to fertilize the ground and feed the world, right out of Texas, the Alaska wanna be state!
Sorry Lenore, ya asked for that one! hehehehehe.
Later
Ron

RickyB    Posted 01-31-2004 at 02:51:24       [Reply]  [No Email]
we don't need anybody else in Texas.we got enough people now.And what do you mean Alaska wantabe.

Mark    Posted 01-30-2004 at 20:16:31       [Reply]  [No Email]
dont wory about food us Us farmers can feed the world.

~Lenore    Posted 01-30-2004 at 21:27:11       [Reply]  [No Email]
That's right, Mark. the farmers here in our country can feed the whole world.

That was another myth he debunked. More food is produced today than ever before and much more than is needed.

Starvation in poorer countries is not because of a lack of food. It is because tribal warfare and power hungry leaders in charge who have no concern about their people. Similar types like sadam huesin was and Castro is, they get rich and live high on the hog in luxury while the people starve and live without electricty and food.

basics missing-    Posted 01-31-2004 at 05:48:45       [Reply]  [No Email]
Like safe drinking water. That is the number one problem with 3rd. world countries. They suffer ails we don't have. Mike D.

Salmoneye    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:13:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
"That is the number one problem with 3rd. world countries."

The number one problem with the '3rd world' is Tin-Horn Dictators keeping people subjugated for their own gain...

Ask all the relief organizations...They all say the same thing...There is plenty of food and relief...The problem is they are not allowed to distribute it freely on a regular basis...

Food is power in the 3rd world...

shucks-    Posted 01-31-2004 at 19:04:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
I don't disagree with you on the despots deal.
BUT!!! Those poor souls don't have clean water, and decent sanitation. They share that as a common denominator, along with the host of illnesses that follow. You say it's evil leadership, I say it's cultural. Shootfire, Sam,
there has been a passel of evil leaders throughout the world.

Ever read 'Guns, Steel & Germs' by Jared Diamond?
Interesting insight.

Still looking for something down here to swap for some Maple syrup now that the Burly is out.

Mike D.

~Lenore    Posted 01-31-2004 at 06:36:40       [Reply]  [No Email]
Amen.
There is plenty of food and water and land.

I happen to be a sponser of the 700 Club a Christian organization. They happen to be drilling water wells in China and India and giving villages fresh clean water for the first time in their lives. It costs about $375 to drill a good clean deep water well over in these countries. The people have been hauling filthy water from nearby rivers and streams for all their needs. They are infested by parasites and dysnetary and such.

Through my donations and the donations of many others these people can drink clean untainted water now. So you see water is there, just the powers that be don't drill wells for the people.
Like Salmoneye said food is provided and the dictators do not let the people have it. They need them in that poor condition to control them.
Just like the Democrats need the "underpriviledged and mistreated" for their voting base. Just think if all those people were encouraged to become self sufficinet and productive!! Think of the "groups" that would lose their purose for existing and their money for example Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition, etc. He would no longer be needed and would need to get a job.

Redneck    Posted 02-01-2004 at 00:59:06       [Reply]  [No Email]
Yep, too many people. lol

And don't say bad words like job to the good reverant, he'll kick out on us!
