I have re-bagged my garbage 6 times in the last 3 weeks. I live at the edge of town or I would use my shotgun. What will quietly kill, not make ill, but kill that damn dog?

Dave, get you some cheap Pine scented cleaner and a spray bottle and spray your garbage with it. The dogs will leave it alone. Pine Sol, Pine-O-Pine or any cheap version of it will work perfectly.

Dave, I wouldn't shoot the pooch. You may feel worse after you do. Try contacting the area dog pound, sherrif or police. Try a life trap. The animal is probably a stray and hungry. The owner or previous owner should pay, not the dog itself. Picking up garbage every garbage day would pi-- me of too, but dogs are something special. Now if that were a cat, it would have been dead and buried long ago!

Have you tried Tabasco sauce, or some other HOT pepper sauce?

Nathan, I went to one of those import tool places and bought an air powered rifle for about $25. It takes one pump to shoot a .177 pellet about 700 fps. It makes very little noise. I don't think it would kill a good-sized dog, but you can sure burn his tail. A friend of mine has killed squirrels and snakes with the one I got for him. He lives in Nashville and can't make gun noises in the city.

We keep the animals including dogs or cows out with a simple chain and hook set up over the top of the can thru the lid handle. Works great on the metal cans. Mark H.

I built a container for my garbage at the road so I didn't have to kill every dog in the neighborhood. Maybe you should think about that. Could be somebodys pet and dogs have a hard time staying away even if they are well trained. Other critters like cyotes will also get in the garbage also You can't kill them all

Don't forget oppossums, raccoons, snow plows and new drivers. There all kinds of dritters and varmits out there to make our lives interesting.

maybe that's truer than you think - you know that "fastest gun" where there's always a faster one? or no matter how careful you plan, there's always another better one brewing. don't feel bad, people rarely do the best they can - we all do just about average.

"by gumry i'd had enough! i was a lousy shot so i practiced til i could pick the coffee can off a fence post. then i practiced til i could hit the label, then a fly on the label. then practiced til i could hit the fly's leg, then the dust speck on the fly's leg, then the mite on the dust speck, then the missus reminded me it was time for church and i'd just wasted our collection money on 22 shells" :)
