what is our country coming to????

we ARE a nation of war lovers! why else do we put up with all the violence and mayhem on TV every nite and no one seems to care. yet let poor dumb butt janet jackson bare a breast for a fraction of a second and the country has a moral fit!(of course she is black)

Stevie is probably taking some kind of history course at some Ivy League Univesity and is using us for feedback for a project.

Wow! What a turn of events. I had your back when it came to the 10 women dead. I thought you were serious. When in fact you have used this tragedy to provoke others. Shame on you.

I agree that this last post in no way relates to your first on this subject. If you don't like what you see on T.V. shut it off and use your time fo0r something else. What does Janet Jackson's display have to do with her being black? You talk about this nation tolerating violence and mayhem. Then in the next breath you are being racist. Which seems to be another part of this countries "moral decay".

Dennis    Posted 02-04-2004 at 09:37:41       [Reply]  [No Email]
what's yur point?

~Lenore    Posted 02-04-2004 at 09:19:35       [Reply]  [No Email]

"we ARE a nation of war lovers!"

I see your distaste for the USA sending military to Iraq, and your opinions for why they were sent.

What is your constructive suggestion for the correct and proper way to address the terrorist attack of Sept. 11th? (or do you have one?)

Do you believe that if we just pretend Sept. 11th never happened, it will go away and there would have been no further attacks on us?

"..why else do we put up with all the violence and mayhem on TV every nite and no one seems to care."

As for my opinion of the content of TV programing, I think it is undermining the moral fiber of our country. I personally watch very little of it. I think more people are turning it off than the networks would like, too.

".... yet let poor dumb butt janet jackson bare a breast for a fraction of a second and the country has a moral fit!(of course she is black)"

Are you a racist? or are you implying that we are by that statement? I see you are the one who called Ms. Janet Jackson a "poor dumb butt".

You try to stir up a lot of little fires of hate and malcontent here, Steve. I have noticed though that the replies you get are usually very intelligent and much more convincing than your flames. Seems you would get discouraged; since you always end up looking bad and sounding like an uninformed flamer. I usually do not reply to your little flames, I just decided to have my say this time. I doublt if you will answer my questions though. IMO

i would have preferred to answer you personally but since you have no email address here goes.
a. i am not a racist. my true feelings about racist pigs would probably anger more people here than their perceived notions of what and who i am.
b. do i have a better idea than war? frankly no, i'm not smart enough to come up with something. i do know this though, war has and never will solve anything. oh yeah it has gotten rid of some baddies now and then but solve anything? no!
c. regarding 9/11. i would have preferred covert military operations rather than a all out war.
d. alot of responses here have gotten rather personal about me, so be it, i have very broad shoulders.

"uninformed flamer"

Just what are you inferring?

Salmoneye, Who Is Still Giggling

Yes Les...    Posted 02-04-2004 at 11:00:21       [Reply]  [No Email]
I realize that is not the 'normally accepted usage'...

Better MIGHT have been 'implying'...

But that would be too easy...

Infer \In*fer"\, v. t. [imp. & p. p. Inferred; p. pr. & vb. n. Inferring.] [L. inferre to bring into, bring forward, occasion, infer; pref. in- in + ferre to carry, bring: cf. F. inf['e]rer. See 1 st Bear.] 1. To bring on; to induce; to occasion. [Obs.] --Harvey.

2. To offer, as violence. [Obs.] --Spenser.

3. To bring forward, or employ as an argument; to adduce; to allege; to offer. [Obs.]"

I like #3 :-)

Let's try to figure out how the one subject relates to the other........ OK, they don't.
But since you bring up Janet's booobie (and I don't mean her brother) I have no problem with it in the proper place and time. I like them of all sizes and colors so playing the race card is pretty stupid, even for you.

Super Bowl halftime is neither the place nor the time. There are plenty of web sites, adult movies, magazines and strip clubs where she can show them off all she wants to.

Go back under the bridge now.

Steve and Stormy please read what was said again. "10 female soldier's dead
as a result of hostile actions in iraq.(so far)
what is our country coming to????" First off it looks like we should be upset that do to the hostile actions of people in Iraq they have killed 10 woman US Soldiers. What do you mean "What is OUR COUNTRY coming too?" saying that? It is so sad Steve belives it is our Country that has killed them. I take offence to that statement. I feel bad Stormey you do not see what this post is all about and leading to. Mark H.

babyg    Posted 10-03-2004 at 16:23:10       [Reply]  [No Email]
I think what was meant by "What is our country coming to?" is referring to the way that the whole Sept.11th incident was used to start this played out unnecessary war. I mean really think about the ironic way that Bush was so eager to send troops into war to find BinLadin, who of course has seem to disappear and instead finds Hussain and all this conveiently around re election time.

Stormie    Posted 02-04-2004 at 09:28:56       [Reply]  [No Email]
I read the post. I read the comments. I took it as he was sad for the loss of soliders dead. Read my posts you will see that I am not upset with our country, president, government, ect.. I am saddend that soilders die in any war. I just wanted to make the point that it is tragic no matter how or where you views lie. I can't speak for Steve or how he feels about anything. I am also in agreement with him that it is sad. If he is just trying to get something started and didn't truly feel bad for the loss then he needs help.

Willy-N    Posted 02-04-2004 at 09:41:03       [Reply]  [No Email]
It is very sad that 10 have died so far! It is also sad Steve would use there deaths in a twisted way for his posts to stir people up into a frenzy for his pleasure. You would be better off not to fall into the ploy he like to start. It is his choise of words and arrangement that makes me wonder if he get enjoyment from the posts or realy beleives?? Steve I know you from way back on the 8N Board and you used to come down real hard on me for what I would do with a tractor. I thought you had changed by some of your posts here but I see you are still the same person just loving to start trouble. Mark H.

Amnesty International estimated that about 5,000 Iraqi civilians were dying each month due to the actions of the Iraqi government before the war. Due to the selfless dedication and sacrifice of our military, both men and women, we put a stop to that. What is this country coming to, indeed.

Stormie    Posted 02-04-2004 at 07:30:09       [Reply]  [No Email]
I thought is was just Alias who was being so disrespectful. However I can see I was wrong. It is killing me that people are acting like a soliders death is nothing to pay notice too. This is not about politics or when women started fighting in combat. He simply stated his sadness at the loss of some female soilders. I bet he feels the same sadness for the men. Everyone should. These people are dying for our country. It should not matter if you think they should be there or not. They are doing it and it MATTERS!!!!!
I am glad my country is fighting terrorism! I wouldn't want it any other way. I can still say this even after losing a very close family member to this war. I have and will always pray for those who have fallen and those who are still in danger. I can see now that they are not the only ones who need guidance.

Show some respect for those soliders that have given their lives for this country. They didn't die in everyday tragedies. They died fighting for all of us. Steve I will join you in saying that it is a shame these women died. It is a shame any solider had to die in any war. I am glad they do what they do and I will never take it in vain.

Ron,Ar    Posted 02-04-2004 at 08:07:55       [Reply]  [No Email]
Stormie, I have to believe that Steve's post was pure politics. I went back thru 12 pages and that is where the evidence leads me. I agree with you about the loss of life being tragic.I have spent the last 30 years doing a slow burn inside over 58000+ of my generation that died in another conflict. I feel that it destroyed a whole generation, took away their dreams and left us with a feeling we cannot shake. It has not however lessened my pride in the country or it's soldiers that stand ready to do what they are asked. In fact these conflicts and the support our soldiers recieve now help some of us get over the ghosts of the past.

Salmoneye    Posted 02-04-2004 at 07:37:12       [Reply]  [No Email]
While I can see you are upset, I feel the need to tell you that you are mistaken...

Stevie is all politics...Nothing more than a sad little troll looking to get a rise out of people with his inflamatory (and usually nonsensical) rhetoric...

Most certainly...

And I have to agree with nearly all you have said...

I also mourn the loss of any and all soldiers...I do however feel pride in their decision to serve our country...

Back when I was of 'prime' age, I did not think the way I do now...I will regret not having been in some branch of service to my dying day...

You started this, so I'm gonna ask a bigger question. While the deaths in combat zones around the world is tragic, so is all unnecessary death but freedom has never been free. Why don't you raise cain over the number of babies killed here every year due to abortion? That number (10) you mentioned pales in comparison to the number of deaths due to elective abortion. What is this country coming to indeed.

domestic abuse...). Trust me, you're not saving us from

It's 2004, the era of equality between the sexes. When the women joined up, they realized that in today's volunteer aremed forces, everything is equal, including death.

Wake Up...    Posted 02-04-2004 at 07:05:28       [Reply]  [No Email]
Your ignorance is showing...Please actually learn something today Stevie...

"Wives, mothers, actresses and debutantes who joined the WASPs logged 60 million miles in the air. Thirty eight women died in service. But the opportunity to play a critical role in the war effort was abruptly canceled by politics and resentment, and it would be thirty years before women would again break the (gender) barrier in the skies."

That is only WASPs...There were many others from all types of 'service' including Red-Cross workers...

Cut and paste the first link as it has more info on Women in war including a listing of all the deaths (females) in Vietnam...

Try doing a google search...

Salmoneye, Who Is Franky Not Surprised That Stevie Has Nothing Better To Post

PS.....I had to change the word in parentheses to 'gender'...

Red Dave    Posted 02-04-2004 at 07:00:12       [Reply]  [No Email]
Well then, I can only assume that you would prefer to invite the terrorists to come over here for the fight so they can kill women and children by the thousands instead of the ones & twos at a time in Iraq.

Make no mistake about it, this terrorist war is a fight to the death, them or us. The limp-wristed, knock-kneed, hand wringing pacifists don't want to admit it, but it's going on now and it's going to continue for a long time, like it or not.

We can fight it over there or right here in this country.
I'd rather go on fighting it over there.

Friendly Fire    Posted 02-04-2004 at 13:00:06       [Reply]  [No Email]
Just like Nam, huh Red Dave. And we will end up with the same results, our kids being killed by people who dont want us over there in their country. They will just keep on killing us until we get sick of it and go home, just like Viet Nam.

Just a point Steve there have been way more deaths of Babys and Children then that in 2003 by being locked in cars in the heat! Here is a link to probly 20 different stories just for 2003. Soldiers die in the USA just because. Mark H.

Alias    Posted 02-04-2004 at 06:21:00       [Reply]  [No Email]
Steve, get the picture, ok. In the next 100 years more than 6 billion people will die. And, a lot of them will not die from old age. Now, if you are so set on complaining about deaths caused by war and the president, why not complain about all the other things in society that causes death. Take for example, Cars kill people. Drugs kill people. Starvation kills people. Guns kill people. The list goes on and on. But, don't ever, in your wildest moment, let the thought cross your mind that TERRIORIST KILL PEOPLE. And, don't ever admit even to yourself that Saddam Huessin ruled by Terrorism.

Alias??????    Posted 02-04-2004 at 07:09:16       [Reply]  [No Email]
I think the point Steve was trying to make is that these soilders deaths were tragic. I don't think he was making a political statement.

The fact that you are lumping any soilders death together with statistics such as cars, guns, drugs,ect... is a travisty. These people died defending our country. Please don't let it be in vain!!!!!

Just for a moment get off the political soap box and think about how these families must feel having lost someone in a war. Now, let me tell you how it feels. I am sad but I am filled with more PRIDE than ever. I know that his death stands for more than if he would have died in a car wreck. I will never forget why he died and who he died for. He loved his country and was proud to defend her even for those who think like you.

From a long line of Soliders,

Stormie, evidently you have not been keeping up with Steve's earlier post. A few days ago he commented that the White House should be reclaimed from War Mongers. Now, you have to be pretty sick to want anyone to die. And, I feel for anyone who dies a violent death. Moreover, I wish I could bring about an end to any war and death, But, I can't. So, what can I do? I can simply honor the dead. And, I can't do that if I make them out to be like sheep led to slaughter. What they're doing is for the betterment of mankind. For, today in Iraq there are children that sleep easier because of what our soldiers have accomplished............gfp

Stormie    Posted 02-04-2004 at 07:40:11       [Reply]  [No Email]
I am sure you can already know I agree with this post 100%. If that is Steves opinion so be it. People died so he could say those things. However, this post simply stated he felt the loss of 10 women soliders. I still don't understand why more people didn't say. "that is a shame." I mean I am fairly new here and maybe steve has a way of upsetting people more than I know. Maybe my feelings run a little stronger because I am still suffering the loss of a loved one who died in this war. Whatever, the case may be I wish more people were showing respect to those who have died. I am not trying to argue with you and I always have enjoyed your posts. I agree with you on many thing. Just not so much this time :>)

For cheaper gas? That's horsehocky!

We could have had cheaper gas just by letting Saddam in power and lifting the embargo.
We could have all the cheap gas we could use if we stopped supporing the Israeli's and let the Arabs overrun them.

Your "cheaper gas" theory doesn't hold up under scrutiny.

And I post using my usual, recognizable screen name.

You used to support him, it didn't work out too well did it, and gas was not cheaper then.

>>We could have all the cheap gas we could use if >>we stopped supporing the Israeli's and let the >>Arabs overrun them.

You think if the Arabs overran Israel gas would be cheaper ? lol

Steve, what I don't understand is why you think you have to put an apostrophe in the word "soldier's" and not in "actions". They are both plural words and as such do not require an apostrophe.
Let the flaming begin.
