First off I ain't no tree hugger, but I think the good book say to be good stewards of the earth.I raise some slaughter pigs and it concerns me as to what you do with your waste. Also do you keep these pigs till they die of natural causes then bury.To whose benefit is that.No good to humanity or wild-life results at the cost of others and the environment.Think it over.Pig waste is not something that should be allowed to run-off into streams ect.

I am confused...    Posted 02-05-2004 at 06:10:51       [Reply]  [No Email]
You are taking care of 600+ 'rescued' pigs that people kept as pets?...

What the heck did they do that for?

Salmoneye,

Cowman placed a similar ad for a farm hand, and added "The boss' wife is grouchy before 6 am"

The little fella from down the road came over with the ad in his hand, and said his dad wanted him to apply. He looked down, kicked dust with his boot and acted like he wanted to dissapear.

We hired him. He worked for us for 6 years! Earned his FFA State Farmer degree, and attends OSU (animal science). He is like a son to us.

I will never forget the look on his face when he received his 1st pay check! "I really get paid???!!!" It was great!

Now that...    Posted 02-05-2004 at 13:31:22       [Reply]  [No Email]
Is a 'cool' story...

Thanks,

Salmoneye

John
"Lory was able to purchase her land and moved to her new home in 1993, with her horses and dogs. She was given a pot-bellied pig, and then bought a few more. Then the breeder who had sold her two pigs gave her 40 more. Another breeder gave her 75. Then the vet botched a neuter, which resulted in more babies. And so it grew."

1. Why would a quadriplegic that could not properly take care of one pig keep adding until things were out of hand?

"Flowers Bakery, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, G&G Produce, Jackson Produce, Reed's Produce, and others who regularly donate their excess goods as special treats for the Pig Tales pigs."

2. Don't you think that all of that excess food could be put to better use feeding hungry men, women and children in America?

Pig Tales currently provides homes for nearly 650 pigs....All new arrivals must be vaccinated and all new males neutered at considerable expense.

3. Ever thought of starting a Methane Gas recovery facility to help offset expenses?

Housing is a converted school bus with no water.Bathroom fac's are up at the main house..

You mean that we get to move into an old school bus in the middle of a hog farm with no running water. Are you going to supply my family with some of those hang up air fresheners that's shaped like pine trees during the summer months?

no pay, no benefits, and no vacations

You wont chop off my foot and make me change my name to Toby. If I were to sneak off for a night in town will you?

I think that I will stay in my cave. At least it does have running water. Well maybe not running. More like dripping from the ceiling next to the kids room.

don't know for sure, why do oher take in unwanted kids that can get out of control easier?

men, women adn childre can all survive if they get off their lazy butts and work,,pigs adn abandoned animals cannot.

I agree,it takes a specil type person to give up everything to care for a bunch of unwanted, abandoned or abused animals with no future.it is NOT for everybody, even though you might think you can, don't even bother to try unles you have an extra ordinary sense of committmnent.

Maybe you need to scroll to the bottom of the below page and tell those Military Members and America's working poor to get off of their lazy butts and go to work..

"Many of the families find themselves hard-pressed to make ends meet during this difficult time.."

Well then...Good for you...If my Aunt Louise was closer, she would be all over a cause like that...

I, on the other hand, am a heartless lout and would be eating high on the hog for months...

No pun or offence intended...
