I am going to feed a mix of ground corn oats and barley to my hogs. What percentage of each grain should be in the mix? I realize that this ratio will probably change as the hogs grow from wieners to finish. What ratio at what age? Thanks Dan

You probably shouldn't feed oats or barley to small pigs. I found that it is best to feed them a good feed store ration up until they are one hundred pounds.Corn, soybean meal, and a good mineral mix. The reason being is that during the early stages of the pigs growing cycle is devoted to muscle development. After that it is muscle growth,so you'd want to feed a high energy high protein diet at first. Then you can try other grain mixtures until they are ready to butcher.

Here is the feed value for oats and barley as compared to corn. Corn being based at 100% feed value. Barley is rated at 80-90% the value of corn, and oats is rated at 70-80%. Either one shouldn't be over one third of the total growing/finishing ration.

Hope that this helps you out. If you have more questions don't be afraid to ask.
