I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I had posted a while back about my 1929 Westinghouse electic stove. I was doing a thorough cleaning of it before I christen it tomorrow with breakfast (this should be interesting!!). There is a vent in the back of the oven that opens out on the top of the oven, I stuck my hand in it to clean out all of the goop in there and found a small pearlized button. It just so happened, I was talking to a friend with an old electric range too while I was doing this. When I said I found a button, she asked if it was a small pearlized one? She said when she got her stove, she found the same thing in the same place! Does anyone know if this was some kind of "good luck" or symbol to keep you safe? Kind of odd that we both had them? Needless to say, I cleaned it off and put it back where I found it!!! I don't want to jinx myself!

New one on me, but may very well be one of those old superstitions that have fallen by the wayside...

When I moved into my house I found all the light switches and drawer brasses upside down...It is an old preventative against 'haints', though I do not know the reasoning behind it...
