i place maybe 1 cellphone call in two months, my wife may call me once or twice a month on my cell. i work night and days in another state with a sixty mile drive each way. i'm looking for a real cheap phone service. heard about tracfone today on paul harvey show, anyone have any thoughts? Thanks.

I started to get one of those for my daughter but went with Nextel instead. Ask around. In our area, Nextel is the only cell phone service that can provide us with a decent signal. GTE, AT&T Sprint, etc, all fell short. I tried them all. I don't know where you are, but unless you can get a decent signal, you're wasting your money. I got Jill an AT&T one year and she had to go stand out in the yard to make a call. The Nextel works EVERYWHERE. Here at least, Nextel doesn't have the pay as you go feature, like a trac phone, but at least it works, and the two way radio feature is awesome. Everybody we know is on it.

There are a couple services here...I have no idea what they are, but one of the 'boyz' can sit with us in the evening and can get a really good signal...The other has to play all sorts of contortion games to be able to say hello...

Trac-Fone works pretty well here and is up there with the best signal guys around...

We have two now...

Buy one with a big sticker that says '100 miute one year card included' or somesuch...It is as posted below around $93 for a '100 minute card' but they usually have deals to double that and some more than double...

My Wife got one from my Sister for Christmas that when they were done playing had 230 miutes on it for the price of the phone alone and a year and 3 months to use them...They can add more in that time that will carry the whole length of time...

use it just when it is really neccessary. Buy the yearly card for about $93, and it lasts me more than a year. About $7.50 a month I guess. You get 150 minutes with the yearly card, sometimes more. Like I said, it is just for important things, don't care to jaw on a phone everyplace I go. I think you can buy the phone on sale for $70?, and it comes with a number of minutes on it. So there it is, whether it is a good deal or not, don't know. You have to make your own decision. Only drawback is renewing the card, they must have their business in India or Bangledesh, I have a hard time understanding them. Of course, I have a hard time understanding anyone.

Do it all online...Way faster and easier than calling them...

I did the first time, but for some reason could not make it work the second time around. What a hassle

If it was back near Christmas, they were swamped...Waited a couple more days and was able to do it quickly...

no, I made a mistake by calling them when something kept going wrong in the procedure.
By the way, going to ask a few of the old timers here about whether there are any sugar maples in the area. This place has a lot of woods around it. At least it will till they build more houses on it

Lots of places (like Ohio, Indiana etc) where they don't have so many hard-rock (sugar) maples, people will tap Reds and Blacks...

Less sugar content, but they work just fine...

Wife has a tracfone and it is not really a good deal if you check the cost per minute of usage especially as you have to buy minutes every month just to have it.I would check into the cell phones that also can work like a walkie talkie with a family plan then you don't pay for every call.

We have one and dont use it much, thats why we have it. It works for us.We paid $40 for it. That is way cheaper than a contract if we dont like it it can sit in the drawer and wont really be out much. The cards are good for 3 months i think befpre you have to renew or use the time up.We dont have to have a phone glued to our ear.
